OOC - Mary Sue

This is a question in a couple of parts.

One- how do you keep from making sure your character is not a Mary Sue? Is there any tests you run, or anything you do in your posts. I know it is an easy trap to fall into when you love a character a lot.

Two- How do you address this if you are Moderator with tact and firmness without making your players feel bad or picked on?
