Quint raised her hands open palmed in a gesture that said as you wish. She wasn’t looking for a fight, she wasn’t planning to cause one. She was amazed at the amount by the chaos that Serenity was generating in the force. She had almost managed to get Mar to start yelling at her. That chaos wanted to pull her in and be snarky too. But she knew better and blocked the emotional force eddies that were rippling through the space.

“I am going to head back to the ship,” she said calmly to Rowan as she picked up her tools. She had an artifact that she wanted to look at and a holocron to watch again. She also knew she needed to meditate about pride and pushing her abilities. That was her trap. Her master had told her she had not problem believing she could do something. It was that she took a sledge hammer to pound a nail. This was an example of this. She could have got the engine running without using the force to realign it. But the engine spoke to her and she didn’t think.

As she walked back, in her head her Master’s voice spoke, “Quint, what if you needed to run? You can tell you all have the attention of the Dark Side. You can feel them probing for all of you.”

In a very calm voice Quint said, “Master that is inevitable, they are now hunting me as they hunted you. He needed the ship not to be traceable so I changed his engine signature. It was needed to keep them safe. Do you not feel that too?”

Quint had learned that like every engine, ever force user had a unique signature when they used the force. The more you use the force and the more force you use, the bigger the fingerprint. There were ways to hide the signature. Maybe Mar knew about that and could teach her.

She sighed. She didn’t ask him to be her master and she was almost a full Jedi. She could go before the Jedi council and test for acceptance. She flopped on her bunk in Rowan’s ship and said, “ and be arrested for my master’s murder before I could even test.”
