Around the fire

Berus listened intently as the conversation raged around the fire. Ekero for his part did not seemed to bother with what was being discussed and or that he understood very little of the words exchanged, falling on his role as the host making sure everyone had plenty of water and that they partook of the roasted meat, the cured cheeses and bread.

Not the most lavish spread but surely better than the dry rations they had likely eaten for most of the last few months.

He kept turning the pieces of lizard over the embers making sure the meat roasted evenly but not too much. Nothing worse than dried lizard he thought grinning to himself.

Alexis gave Voah another soft smile. If nothing else, she was grateful for her friends being here. She had learned the hard way how fleeting those moments in precious company could be.

“It took us several days on horseback to cover the distance between Ostiarium and here, so we have a little grace period left. Though, thinking of Alcuin, we really shouldn’t be too sure we won’t run into anyone on the way. Ostiarium has some reach…”

She frowned.

“Which reminds me, we don’t have any idea where he vanished to. If that weasel managed to find his way into the middle of the desert however, there is a chance he might find his way out.”

She gestured between Voah and Gonyaul.

“He spent some time with you, yeah? Think it might be better to conceal Gonyaul as well, just in case?”
