The deer skin felt soft as Islana lay against it, her green eyes staring upward towards the twinkling of the stars. Her mind focused on what had occurred tonight.

The old woman lingered in her thoughts. The idea that Islana was the only person with her gift had never been a thought in the redhead's mind. She wasn't egotistical enough for such a thing. It had occurred to her, though, she might never meet another person who could do what she could or one just couldn't share it with the other.

Tonight had changed that, by meeting the old woman, one who shared her ability. How did the older woman know and what did the word Erewhon mean?

Only two people had ever known what Islana could do, without her telling them. The old woman tonight and the man that tried to sacrifice her. One thing, Islana was fairly certain of, the two weren't alike.

As her hand reached again to her necklace, her mind went to her mother. If her mother had the same ability, why didn't Islana's father just tell her. It would make sense why they lived in the woods, with that being the case. Why the secret though from a child that clearly had the same gift?

Then came the necklace, what did a silverish bird pendant on a necklace have to do with this. Was this why she had an easy time calling birds?

The redhead knew her ability didn't come from the necklace or at least not the part that she could do before recent developments because she had always been able to do that.
So, what was the connection?

It felt like a puzzle with a lot of pieces missing; the young woman was worried she would never have a complete picture with those missing pieces. What if they were just missing forever? How would this piece of her life, her soul really, ever be complete?
