Captain K. and the incredibly sarcastic and believable Mercenary.

When: During Jay's funeral, and some time after.
Where: Several places on the ship.
Who: Davie,
and lots of others, including Captain Fifi K. B-)

The wounds Davie had received during
the battle with the Space Corp. Marines and with the Hymenoptera still ached
painfully. Walked with a limp, using a cane while his leg healed from the
shrapnel wound he had received from crashing his ship into the Flight Deck. Davie stood in the crowd
at the Captain's funeral, watching. He hadn't known him very well, and had only
ever met him in the corridor outside the drive room when Davie first stepped on board. Davie took a tour of the
ship, and met the captain by chance. Still, Davie felt he should be there. After all, he
didn't have anywhere better to be at the moment.
As the Captain's coffin was
released into space, the attending crew snapped a sharp, swirling salute. Davie looked at the faces
in the crowd, each one filled with sadness. He looked across the room, and saw
the Chief of Security staring teary eyed out the window at the coffin, her hand
still raised in a salute. He also saw acting Captain Amber FeBuggure saluting out
the window, her eyes covered by dark flight glasses. Even the security sergeant
that Davie had
met outside the Docking tube a few days earlier was there, saluting his
deceased Captain. Davie
raised his hand, joining their farewell.

            A corridor
near the Drive room, some time later.

            Davie stood in front to
the electrical panel with a soldering gun in hand, repairing the blown conduit.
He lived here, he helped defend the ship, and to him it seemed only right that
he should help repair it. The wounds he had sustained from the Hymenoptera
scout, and from his crash landing in the Flight Deck, were healing up nicely,
but still ached.
            As he stood
repairing the electrical conduit, he heard the sound of high-heeled boots
clipping up the corridor towards him. He looked up from his work to see a blond
woman in a Captain's uniform, accompanied by a burly man with a shaved head in
a Lieutenant's uniform. Oh smeg…he
thought as turned back to his work …another
JMC Barbie doll.
            The woman
stopped next to him, looking him over. The scars on his face, his discolored
eye, the bandages that bulged out under his clothes, and most notably at his
uniform, which wasn't a uniform at all, just matching dark clothes. "Monsieur,
what is your name, and why are you out of uniform?" she said in French accent. "I'm
not a part of the crew." said Davie
flatly. "Then why are you repairing zee ship?" she said in an annoyed tone.
"Because I live here. I helped defend the ship, and I'm going to help repair
it."
            "A very
noble aspiration, but I am having unqualified personnel working on zis ship,
and especially not civilians who assist rebels in following zee orders of a
Captain who is--was unfit for command." she said accusingly to Davie, who could tell that they weren't going
to get along. "Now, your name?" she said.
            "I don't
have to give it to you, but since you asked nicely, it's Davie Jones. And while
we're on the subject of names, I heard from some of the other crew members that
your name is Captain Fifi Kangaroo." Davie
said, looking at the French woman who was standing there with a surprised look
on her face. "I thought that your name had sounded familiar, so looked Cptn.
Kangaroo up in the ships data base. As it happens, there was a very famous
Captain from the 20th  century
named Kangaroo. He was the star a children's television show." said Davie, being sure to
sound informative. "I even found a picture of him." he said, and then he leaned
in closer to her, looking around carefully. "And with respect Captain, I hope
that you do not share his physical difficulty with facial hair." he said
caringly. She looked at him angrily, but obviously taken aback and at a loss
for words. She looked as if was about to lose her temper, and Davie thought it wise to leave. "Now if
you'll excuse me Captain, I wish that we could chat a little longer, but
unfortunately my wounds are beginning ache rather badly, and I must go and rest
now. Good day."
            Davie turned and walked
into a nearby lift, leaving the Captain and what seemed to be her side kick
standing open mouthed in the corridor. He waved to them as the lift doors
closed in front of him, only infuriating them further.
