Locked Out

As Jay staggers to his feet he clumsily stood up and looked at Jamie. Jamie asked, “Are you ok Jay?” Jay held up his hand as if to shush Jamie for being too loud as he regained his balance. Jamie was now concerned for Jay as he was not looking to well. Suddenly Jay muttered, “Max?” Then quickly ran off in a drunken stupor. Jamie looked at Evelina and said, “I hope he gets better soon.” Evelina replied, “I wish I could talk to him but now is a bad time.” Jamie looked at Evelina and her sad look. He could tell she had been crying earlier and avoided asking for help. Jamie turned away and said, “Looks like its going to a rough few days, well we have a lot of repairs ahead of us if you don’t mind helping.” Evelina replied, “I don’t mind. I need to stay busy right now.” Jamie pulled out his hand held computer and scanned through it as he replied, “Alright then lets see what’s next on the list.”

Before she knew it Evelina spent the whole day helping Jamie. She still wasn’t sure what to do about Jaxx but she was going to try to cheer him up again. After grabbing a quick meal from a fast food machine Evelina headed back to her room only to find it locked. Evelina tried the door several times before she said, “Holly what’s wrong with my door? It won’t open.” Holly’s floating head popped up on screen and replied, “Hey Luv. What’s up?” Evelina said, “Holly please open my door. It seems to be stuck.” Holly looked at the door and then remembered as he said, “Oh yeah Jay did that.” Evelina was now upset as she asked, “Why did Jay lock me out of my room?” Holly thought for a second and then replied, “I am not sure, but I think he meant to keep your hubby in.” Evelina looked at Holly in shock and then asked, “Jay locked Jaxx in? As in quarantine?” Holly thought for a minute before smiling and replying, “I think so but I could be wrong.” Evelina pounded on the door till Jaxx answered in his Vader voice, “What is it? I’m in the middle of “Small Wonder”.”

Evelina was now upset as she replied, “Jaxx what is going on? Jaxx replied, “Oh snap! I’m totally sorry Eve babe I guess no one told you huh?” Evelina replied, “Told me what Jaxx? Why did Jay lock you up?” Jaxx replied, “Cause its like my fault Mrs. C got spammed. I totally wasn’t strong enough to protect the crew so I’m being punished.” Evelina was now confused as she asked, “How in the world could that be your fault? You and I were not even their when she died.” Jaxx replied, “I totally screwed up Eve babe. I like made bad decisions and like people got hurt and died because I’m dumb and weak.” Evelina was now hurt and angry as she replied, “Jaxx they can’t blame you for that. You’re not a super soldier anymore. I’m going to give them a piece of my mind.” Evelina looked at Holly and asked, “Where is Jay and Cass?” Holly thought for a minute before he replied, “Looks like they are sleeping.” Evelina said, “Well wake them then.” Holly replied, “Sorry luv no can do. Jay is three sheets to the wind and Miss Jones is scary when she wakes up. Might want to wait till tommorow.” Evelina balled up her fists and muttered, “FINE!” Then Evelina put her hands on the door and said, “Jaxx honey, I’m going to find a room nearby to crash in for the night. Don’t stress yourself out. I’ll talk to Jay tomorrow and fix this problem.” Jaxx replied, “Sorry Eve babe, you totally deserve better than this.”

Evelina took a deep breath and replied, “Jaxx no matter what happens, just know that I love you very much ok?” Jaxx replied, “Thanks, I totally love ya to Eve babe.” Evelina sighed as she walked across the hall to the empty room next door. The room looked like it belonged to a female officer that was just a little shorter than Evelina. After a shower and a change of clothes Evelina lay down alone in her bed as she cried herself to sleep. Meanwhile Jaxx listened as Evelina walked away before he resumed watching his television shows.

Consciousness returned slowly.
Tossing and turning fitfully, Jay eventually rolled over and, with a start, realised that he was alone in bed, at which point, the horrible nightmare of his reality came crashing back in on him
She was dead
She was dead, just like yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that...
Groaning, he rolled over onto his back and raised his hands to his pounding head. There was a small square of gauze taped there and it took a while before a little piece of the previous night tumbled back into place: Cass had done that
He gingerly probed her handiwork with his fingertips.
