Drive Room
a little while before Niples walks in
Kieran "Well, this is dull" Loes
Kieran sat down in the navigator's chair, which he noticed was unusually
bouncy. He bounced up and down in his seat for a few seconds. At the first
baffled stare, he turned to glare back and discovered that the chairs also
swiveled.
Kieran tested and found that they went all the way around. "Cool!"
"Uh.. should you really be doing that?" asked one of the crewmen.
"Oh, come on, try it. It's fun!" Kieran urged, spinning around rapidly.
"I don't think so," said Drive Enginneer Second Class Feena Wellsome, trying
her best to be mature about it.
"I'll give you ten credits."
"What?"
"Twenty. I'll give everyone who takes a spin in their chair twenty credits.
If you can do it without smiling, fifty."
A different engineer laughed in disbelief.
With a firm frown on her face, Feena spun around in her chair, but when she
looked at Kieran's handsome smile, she couldn't help but crack a small grin.
"You only get twenty," observed Kieran, and tossed her the cash.
"You're serious!"
"Well, as serious as I ever am," he grinned.
Everyone started spinning around in their chairs, giggling with excitement.
Suddenly, the doors whined open (they are supposed to 'whoosh', but...) and
Commander Niples walked in, his face grim. Everyone stopped, and guiltily
returned to work. Kieran felt himself actually blush.
"Sir." He wasn't sure if the word actually got out, and Niples walked into
his office, with a slight chuckle.
The door closed, and everyone gave a collective sigh.
"OH FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!"
Niples opened his office door and stuck his head out. Some papers drifted
off the stack on his desk and towards the door, as if trying to escape.
"Will somebody please tell Captain Cannon that I'm not going to do his
work!"
Niples slammed the door shut again, and everyone looked at each other in
confusion.
"You never gave me my twenty," said Rick, one of the communications
enginneers.
"I thought I did," said Kieran, but tossed him the cash anyway. They could
hear Niples moving around in his office again, and everyone decided to be
very, very quiet.

"We worked out a deal with him. We gave him your name in exchange for our
lives."
