A Fool’s Challenge

The appearance of Sir Zane gained some looks from Tarmen’s crew, particularly the newly assigned guards and soldiers. Just what they needed, the righteous knight breathing down their necks while they tried to have some fun.
The looks changed when he was seemingly joining the rowdy crowd that had gathered.
Several got a glean in their eye at the thought of making the ‘Big Man’ pay for them. This led to a comical display of the group daring one another to challenge him, betting ever more ridiculous amounts of wealth in the hopes they could watch someone else ridicule themselves.
While they bickered about who had the nerve and who didn’t, Tarmen left to approach the Knight. With a cheerful nod to Greyriver, he moved a chair to sit across from Zane. It might have been a slightly drunken ego or simply the booze water letting him relax to a more reckless state, but he knew in this moment he wanted to test Zane. If such an honorable man chose to be amongst the rabble rousers, then Tarmen wanted to see if he could truly be one of them or if he was just ‘visiting’.
Whatever the outcome, tonight was his best shot at seeing it for himself and as he looked to the older gentleman, he couldn’t hide a devil-may-care grin.
“Pardon my presence, but it seems my fellows over there think you’re more show than you let on. I was hopin’ to get the truth for them.”
Holding an arm out, he rested his elbow on the table to reinforce his next statement.
“I challenge you to an arm wrestle.”
