Meeting On the Plains

Before meeting the Grey Mouth escort, the party made sure to get some answers, without being annoying with Jab and Rash, picking up what information they could of the Grey Mouth tribe, learning the normal greetings, goodbyes, food, water, fears, enemies, etc.

When he could, Wolf wrote it down.

Voah wondered about the name of their guide and the Grey Mouth themselves, whether it was a title they actually call themselves or rather some moniker given to them by the people of Ostiarium. Jab told her the guide’s name is Kyeh and they refer to themselves as Grey Mouth.

Upon meeting the guide, Rash translates the introductions as best as he can but the party got a clear sensation Kyeh was not very interested in small talk. Although all three men appeared to be with interested when Voah and the acolyte were introduced.

Would it not be polite to offer our guide some sort of gift? she thought. Maybe gain some trust or lighten the mood. Reaching into her pack, Voah pulled out an apple. "Oh, Kyeh." she lilted. "For you. A gift." She presented it with two hands.

Hunter quietly watched the exchange between the guide and the holy woman. He was concerned she might draw her weapon and start a holy crusade. He hoped she would work peacefully throughout the mission.

"Titū, ahlé ahshwé." she tried in their native tongue.

Kyeh looked at the Arbiter who rode close to him and took the piece of fruit from her hands. She noticed how he kept staring at her hair but wasn’t sure yet what it meant. He bit into the fruit as they rode away deeper into Odsier Territory.

Voah noted Kyeh’s thankless reception. Perhaps they do not have the same manners as her people or perhaps he saw himself as superior.

Hunter was a bit concerned by the way the holy woman tried to butter up the guide with an apple. He was not sure how it was viewed by the guide, but it did come off as a bit condescending, like she was treating him like a pet. Hunter wondered if the holy woman had ever dealt with any group other than her believers and enemies. If she planned to give the chief an apple as a gesture of good will he had very big concerns.

Now granted, he did not directly deal with diplomacy in his past job as a killer, but he spent many hours, days and weeks observing his victim's behaviors and learned a great many things by this before he killed them and made it look like an accident. Then he would record how there others reacted to the death of their leaders. His world was filled with cold logic and death so he could make calm observations. Seeing as he was not in charge he kept quiet as he stayed closed behind the guide.
