The Simming Endeavor: Episode 3 (Déjè vu)

Hello, and welcome back to The Simming Endeavor, an online role playing elimination game of skill, luck, and cunnning, with a top prize of $100 USD. I’m Charles Star and I’m your host. As a reminder, this experiment is both sim and game show at the same time. The contestants role play together in the play-by-post sim we created on the Ongoing Worlds platform while weekly blog posts here simultaneously serve as game show episodes. Last week was quite eventful: we changed Captains, introduced our characters, started our mission, and sent not one, but two players packing.

The Simming Endeavor: Episode 2 (Abdication)

Hello, and welcome back to The Simming Endeavor, an online role playing elimination game of skill, luck, and cunnning, with a top prize of $100 USD. I’m Charles Star and I’m your host. As a reminder, this experiment is both sim and game show at the same time. The contestants role play together in the play-by-post sim we created on the Ongoing Worlds platform while weekly blog posts here simultaneously serve as game show episodes. Last week, we met the contestants, discussed the rules, and assigned roles. Before we meet this week’s special guest, I understand that Tabitha has an announcement for everyone. Tabitha?

The Simming Endeavor: Episode 1 (Introduction)

Hello, and welcome to The Simming Endeavor, an online role playing elimination game of skill, luck, and cunnning. I’m Charles Star and I’ll be your host. As previously announced, this experiment is both sim and game show at the same time. The contestants will role play together in the play-by-post sim we created on the Ongoing Worlds platform while weekly blog posts here simultaneously serve as game show episodes. Before we announce the sim’s genre, outline the rules of the game, and meet the contestants, let’s first demonstrate how to read these episodes.

Simming: The Game Show

Come on down!

You heard that right! And no, I’m not talking about a sim with a game show as the setting, but rather a sim that’s also game show–were you can be both contestant and simmer at the same time! As far as we can tell, this has never been done before so we’ll be breaking new ground. We often do that here at Ongoing Worlds!

How will it work?

We’re still figuring that out. However, the game will be designed primarily around the contestants who volunteer. At the most basic level, the sim/game will be hosted on the Ongoing Worlds platform, and I’ll write weekly blog posts here to serve as the episodes. We’ll likely start with 10-12 contestants and have the game run 8-10 weeks. It will function more or less like a typical sim except there will be one or more tasks to complete each week for the game show aspect. We except a fall airtime.

2018 ToS Winners

We asked for Tournament of Simulations (ToS) submissions back in February and March.  You responded by nominating 28 fantastic games, truly the best of the best from throughout the simming and online role playing community!  It’s now April and we have 10 winners.  If you’re curious how we choose the top games, here’s how.

As I say every year, evaluating sims is a subjective art, and this is certainly true with ToS.  We’re not here to identify the best games as this is impossible.  Instead, we’re here to identify what we think are outstanding role plays that exude excellence.  A different set of judges may very well chose a completely different set of winners.  And that’s okay!  With that our of the record, here are your 2018 tournament winners: Read More

Last Call for 2018 ToS Nominees!

Last month we asked for Squiddie nominations, ToS submissions, and SciWorld hosting applications.  If you’re interested in the Squiddies or SciWorld, refer back to that link for how to make your submissions.  If, however, you’re looking to submit your games for the Tournament of Simulations (ToS), we’ve decided to simplify it below: Read More

How Does the Tournament of Simulations (ToS) Work?

Despite the image, we’re not currently accepting nominations for the 2018 Tournament of Simulations (ToS).  But that will happen very soon… so stay tuned!

In 2016 we published an article on how to win Squiddies that explained in great detail how the process works.  Even though that piece briefly discussed ToS and gave what is still the best advice regarding ToS (Just Enter!), we thought it would be helpful to pull back the curtain on this competition as well.

So here’s everything you need to know about the Tournament of Simulations:
