So, you’ve got your favorite character and you can’t imagine ever *not* playing him or her, but your RP site starts to get a little lack-luster, or maybe goes in a direction you’re not liking. What do you do? You’ve got this sixteen-year-old, shy, gay, Jewish Ravenclaw, who’s dad is a professional broom designer, and you want to take him to a site where Neverland is real, or Rita Repulsa is back with a vengence, or there’s a sudden dyer need to get to the fountain of youth. I think I have your solution.

Bringing characters from site to site is easy, once you know how to do it. You can take any character from any site and change certain things about them so that they fit into the new surroundings. Read More

Big Ideas Week Roundup

Last week, the website SciFi Ideas (www.scifiideas.com) hosted a special event entitled ‘Big Ideas Week’. Its purpose was to celebrate the website’s birthday, and to encourage readers to share their science fiction ideas. While they only received 3 article submissions, that didn’t stop them posting lots of great new content to the site, including a total of 15 new story ideas.

SciFi Ideas also gave Ongoing Worlds a playful nudge on the shoulder by posting an article about the science fiction games we’re currently hosting.

Did you notice anything about the monster on Valentines day? Maybe he’s in love, or maybe he’s ripped the still beating heart out of the chest of a mortal – damn, I should have made the heart more realistic and drip with animated blood!

If you’re running a special valentines day story in your roleplaying game, let us know in the comments below. One of my favourite and fun storylines in a RP started out as a joke on valentines day. A member posted about a “love virus” spreading among the crew and suddenly everyone was falling in love, it got funny, and creepy, and gross.

Advice For Future Roleplayers

I was browsing the very popular roleplaying forum RPG-Directory today and found an interesting thread asking for members to post valuable roleplaying advice for people who are new to roleplaying. The thread was started by member Shadowed Mirrors and was contributed to by more people than I could possibly list here, it’s best to see the thread here.

Here’s the advice list:

  1. Don’t spam a cbox or you’ll get your head cut off XD
  2. Don’t be rude to older members or you’ll head get cut off
  3. Just don’t loose your head
  4. Save posts to a word document because if you lose it you will be frustrated all day
  5. Variety is good. Mary-sues not so good.

2011 was a great year for OngoingWorlds, we had over 200 new members join up, and 148 new games were created (almost double the amount of games created the year before!). Also the game Blue Dwarf was moved to OngoingWorlds from aYahoo Group, instantly making it the game with the most posts on the entire site.
