Hangover

Consciousness crept in like an unwelcome birthday present. Jade kept still, eyes closed as she lay there, hoping that she wouldn't have to move and could sleep it off. Moving was when it would kick in. Her head pounded with the beginnings of a dehydration headache that was setting in for the day and her stomach flittered, threatening to overturn in knots, but not quite there yet.

Slowly, she allowed her senses to try and figure out where she was. Firstly, and most alarmingly, she was naked. Rather more comfortingly, was familliar sandalwood, kyphi and rose scents of insense from her room.

Well at least i'm home She thought, keeping her eyes closed.

She risked a smal movement from under the sheets, turning over so she was on her side facing into the room. That's when her bladder protested. It groaned with the urgancy of the alcoholic aftermath and she knew, that getting up would mean her handover would kick in full swing.

She lay there for a few more minutes, till it wsn't possible to ignore any longer and gingerly extracted herself from the sheets. Bare feet shuffled across the rug covered deck plating, her balance swayed and tilted as the dizziness set in. She groaned, feeling the nausea set in as she made it to the bathroom.

Several vomit endured moments later, and what was more than likely a nap whilst hugging the porceline phone, Jade re-emerged. She shuffled back towards her bunk using the wall for support, past Cass asleep on the soft chair and...

Her brain registered the fact that she was walking naked across her room and she paniced. She rushed forward and in her haste tripped over the raimains of an empty whiskey bottle and fell, with a loud crash onto the floor. Thankfully, her fluffy bunny slippers broke her fall and her face was saved any damage appart from the shock. She managed to scramble and pull the sheet over herself in the fall, saving her dignity... mostly. She was just about covered up when Cass sat bolt upright, a pistol cocked and aimed at the source of the disturbance, barely half awake.

"Gak!" Jade managed, a strangled noise as she finished scrabling about.

"Fuck!" Cass managed, setting the pistol asside and grimacing as the sudden movement caused a wave of pain and nausea to set in for herself.

"Urgh..." Jade curled up into a ball on the floor and moaned more, the room spinning around her.

"Drugs." Cass grumbled, getting up out of the chair and stretching like a cat. Her joints clicked and popped in protest from the night in the chair. She made an effort to move and decided against it, sitting down again, eyes closed, head against the back of the chair.

"Yeah." Jade agreed, getting to her feet unsteadilly. Her Irish heritage, stoically battling against the hangover. "Be right back." She shuffled into her slippers and still draped in the blanket out into the coridoor.

She returned less than ten minutes later to Cass gently snoring again in the corner. Jade quietly opened her bathroom cabiets and pulled out a few paracetamol and placed them on the counter next to Cass with the coffee she had gained from the vending machine. It wasn't elegant, but it would get them moving.

The Doctor downed the pills, and the coffee, and was dressed in a baggy t-shirt which read "I found this humerous" with a long white bone underneath it and a pair of loose cargo trousers before Cass woke up again groaning.

"Pills. Coffee." Jade said, pointing. Cass made an affermative noise and started the process to becoming mostly human again.

"Thanks." She said.

"I know a great place on the promenade. Serves a fried breakfast just perfectly." Jade said, slipping on a pair of shoes.

"Yes." Cass agreed, her body keeping to short words so as not to agrevate the hangover.

One breakfast and a small moat of coffee later, the girls were headed for the medi-bay.

"Thank you for agreeing to help." Jade said as they walked towards the medi-bay, Cass having detoured to shower and change after her drenching last night.

"It's nothing, after that stunt pulled by Plisken we need to know what supplies we have any way. 500 extra people!" Cass grumbled, her anger fueled by the hangover this morning.

"There they are! Evac, evac, evac!" Came a yell from up the coridoor and a burst of automatic gunfire.

"Crap!" Cass said, shoving Jade to the ground and pulling out her pistol and shooting blindly up the hallway. She glanced up at the retreating figures of the men and caught sight of their uniform insignia. "Brittany." She cursed.

"STCP? What do they want?"Jade said, as her aching head throbbed without the aid of time travel shenanigans.

“Cass!” Jay yelled into his radio “STCP aboard – heading for engineering. Think they’re after the time drive…”
“We know!” replied Cass “We’ve run into a squad near the medi-bay”
“Ok. Do what you can…PHIL! They’re not alone…”

The radio cut out and Cass swore again. The two looked at each other and nodded, setting off towards engineering. They were in the turbo lift heading down when;

<Snip>
A claxon sounded. “ALERT ALERT REACTOR CORE BREACH ALERT ALERT! OVERLOAD IMMINENT!”

The lights flickered before switching to the emergancy mode, the lift grinding to a halt between decks.

"What now?" Jade asked, turning to Cass.

OOC - As a small asside, I wrote this in OW webpage. My notebook refreshed the page just after the second snip. I nearly cried. Then I realised that I can never owe Locke enough beer due to the auto-save function. Dude seriously, I owe you a pint.
