Emergency STAT

Embry handed off their captive to officers who were now arriving. Ramirez would stay back to help with the forensics and clean-up. The Captain would notify McMahon’s wife. Embry would drive Gonzalez to the hospital to get the bullet removed from his arm.

The human mule had narcotics in a plastic bag stuffed inside of him. Evidently, they didn’t want the mule to talk. That’s when all he’ll broke lose. In Elbert’s mind, he had done the right thing. He had to keep telling himself that.

When he had pulled into the ER entrance, the helicopter had already arrived. People were moving quickly to attend to the wounded. A nurse peered at Gonzalez’ wound and announced, “This one can wait!”

Sam climbed into the helicopter behind Marley. He had noticed the amount of blood on her clothing. He didn’t search his own, being more concerned for her. It was her sister. He knew she would be concerned about Alex too, but her sister. Sam didn’t have a sibling. Deep down, he wondered how he would respond if it had been Toppy. In the seat next across from Marley, Sam pulled her into his m and held her.

When the copter arrived at the hospital, Sam knew that they would need to give the nurses and doctors some space. He helped Marley off the helicopter and walked her away from it, so the ER teams could help Rainey and Alex. He simply stood there, his arms about her, providing as much comfort as he could. He wished he could tell her Rainey would be fine. He wished he could say something that would be comforting. No words came to him, so he simply held her.

News was quickly getting out about the assault at the King Ranch. News helicopters were heading out to the ranch. A reporter approached Embry, recognizing the Ranger.

“What can you tell me? What happened?” she asked.

“You’ll have to wait for the briefing from the Captain,” Embry responded. That’s when he looked up and saw Kate and her mother arriving to the ER.
