Lunch and Desserts

Elizabeth glanced towards Jackal, "It is quite alright doctor, but you must be aware the Baron is as British as.... well... I am. We Brits do not drink coffee but it does not mean we cannot have it for others who enjoy it." Elizabeth paused thoughtfully for a moment. "Sometimes people that have the most become quite used to that which they can always get. You have a different insight because you went without. The Baron not only is used to what he has; he feels it his right to obtain whatever he desires. He will, eventually, realize there is no one who is due every pleasure."

Elizabeth took another sip of her wine. Changing the subject. "I do believe that everyone must be famished, I say we begin with lunch."

Dr. Jackal smirked at the comments of Lady Elizabeth and raised his cup to her as he sipped his coffee and agreed to have lunch. Since many of the foods were new to him, he decided to have a small portion of several different foods. Since he was living life for the second time he wanted to experience new things that way he would not die with as much regret in life. Assuming he could die that is. In the past he tried to kill himself and the demon stopped his attempts as well as the attempts of others. Jackal also noticed he was not suffering from malnourishment or bad health care while on the run. There was still much to learn about himself but in the meantime he decided to enjoy the bountiful meal before him. He then replied, "Thank you for this bountiful meal Lady Elizabeth."

As seemed to be his theme for the day so far, once again Dumont appeared late to the party.

"Excuse moi." he said as he sat down with the others and began to pour himself a cup of same coffee that Dr Jackal was drinking. Afterwards he joined the others in their dining by making himself a plate from the delicious smorgasbord laid out for them. Dumont had to try some of the quiche and a bit of smoked eel on toast with some sort of creme spread that that tasted of chives and garlic.

"Have I missed anything of importance?"

"Sung smiled at the mention that the Baron was British. "I am surprised that they claim him," said Sung quietly, almost Joking. He looked over the food and pick some out having it placed on his plate and placing his napkin in his lap. "Coffee is taking the world over when I was in Korea and Japan neither had Coffee but I hear now they do not in great amounts but they have it," commented Sung. " Mr. Dumont good to see you made it, Nothing too much we were just starting our meal. and ah... commenting on the Good Baron." Said Sung half sounding sarcastic about the Baron comment.

“Ah, yes. The estimable Baron. Isn’t he a delight?” Dumont joined in on the jest.

“I take it everyone has had a good tour of the facilities. And our Fräulein and Miss Gemma seem to be cut from the same cloth.”

Cronk saw the farikal and had to have some. It was quickly becoming the national dish for Norway.

Cronk also spotted some German selections. He got a few spoonfuls of sauerbraten.

His plate a mound of wonderful smelling food, Cronk returned to his seat. He took a bite of the farikal and smiled, remembering his mother’s cooking.

“Baron not good,” Cronk suggested to the Good Doctor. “Broke mold After Pretty Flower,” Cronk replied to Frenchie.

Dumont leaned in with his good ear to listen to Cronk. He nodded as he chewed and after swallowing he agreed, "Trop vrai, Monsieur Cronk."

Vor arrived out of breath, having done his best to make it in some form of good time. Seeing everyone partaking of the food splayed out let him know his failure in this, but his mood couldn’t be dampened when he smelled several familiar and delightful aromas.
He would know the smell of eel anywhere, this one in a lovely blue colored jelly. And next to it was a delicacy that almost had his mouth watering, genuine sturgeon caviar. Several cheeses with black bread marked it as a true miniature smorgasbord.

Seeing the others already in conversation, he provided himself a small plate and sat to politely devour this little reminder of home.

Elizabeth had a whisp of a smile on her lips upon hearing the quips about the Baron. There was a sarcastic element, directed towards the no show Baron, to Jackal thanking her for the meal. "Well, I will be sending a thank you note later to the Baron where I will be sure to tell him of this amazing meal." She commented with a hint of mischievousness to her voice.

Elizabeth's own plate consistedo of many different cheeses and breads. She tried some of the caviar, remembering it from her time spent in Russia. She tried some of the German cuisine of sauerbaurten and some of the kielbasa and sauerkraut. But for Elizabeth the taste of home came from Yorkshire puddings and the savvy pastries made with mutton and bacon. While Elizabeth could have anything she wanted made at home, the savvy pastries for some reason normally weren't as good here. These tasted just like the ones that came from the Trocadero Restaurant in London.

Dr. Jackal tried various samples of food. If he didn’t care for them he ate it anyway since food should not be wasted. He learned that the hard way. On his second serving he had more small samples to try out. He planned to taste them all in order to expand his horizons as well as his palate. He then spoke up as he said, “I believe this is a great experience for me to see much of the variety I have missed while locked in my lab. I have learned that life moves pretty fast. If you don’t pay attention….(eating a piece of cheese) ….. you might miss it.” Dr. Jackal seemed content with trying out many foods even if he didn’t like them all.

Cronk was surprised to find skillingsboller as a dessert. It was warm and sticky. He placed one on his plate and a second one onto a spare plate. Returning to his seat a second time, he handed the second one to Lorem.

“Pretty Flower try,” Cronk suggested. “It sweet. Not that Pretty Flower need sweeter.”

Sung did see some Korean food. Korean bibimbap looks gorgeous on the plate. It was made up of six vegetables, but you can use whatever you have on hand or garden. this, eat this rice dish with beef, but it was also topped with a fried egg sunny-side-up.

Next to it was Chap chae also spelled jap chae is one of the most popular noodle dishes in Korea. The glass noodles are made from mung bean or sweet potatoes, and they become translucent when cooked. This dish is cold or hot and as an appetizer or main dish.

Sung saw Kimchee a traditional Korean side dish made from fermented cabbage, radish, and cucumber. It is often categorized by the main vegetable ingredient used to make it and is spicy.

The soup was rich but delicate short rib soup most likely originated more than 800 years ago, thought Sung. during the waning days of the Goryeo Dynasty. It is commonly served at traditional Korean wedding receptions, as beef was a luxury item reserved for special occasions and nobility.

Sung was not sure if anyone might try it but he was happy to see it there. The Baron must know too much about the team thought Sung.

"Yes, The Cronk flower is lovely but so are all the flowers of our team. Commenting on all the women on the team." Sung said as he picks up the chopsticks that were there for him.

Of course, proper young ladies, especially of the upper class are taught one, in situations like this. It take one plate for entrees only, take a little bit of each different food. This way no one is offended but it allows you to try different things. There was no way to try each thing with one plate, so Elizabeth try some foods from each country that was represented. The farikal was very good. The eel, seemed more of an aquired taste. German and French food was not at all foreign to her. The Korean food however she was extremely curious about. After all it was from Sung's homeland. The bibimbab was good. The rest was a bit of the spicy side for her tastes. Of course, being British spice wasn't something she was accustomed to but Elizabeth knew she needed to increase her palette for the travels that would occur, running a team for the order.

Then came desserts, honey cakes, chocolate cookies, gingerbread came from the British side. But the arguably, the greatest British dessert was the Trifle, with its layers of cake, fruit and cream, and Elizabeth was certain to get some of that.

There was something from American called a Hershey chocolate bar. It looked like a Cadbury bar. She decided to take one and save it for later, just to try it.

A lot of French pastries of which she mostly passed, because getting good French pastry in Paris is of course incredibly easy. She did try desserts from other countries as well. They were all rather tasty. And as she looked at the men getting second plates (and sometimes more), she thought sometimes life would be easier if she didn't have so many rules to follow.

She ordered a cup of tea to go with her desserts and sipped it quietly as the meal was enjoyed.
