Talk with a Dr. about a Dr. (Part 3)

"Wild Carrots." Sasha said. "Their flowers share many visual similarities, and someone with no knowledge of forging plants could mistake the root systems. I do not know what carrots would do for the serum if anything but, for the sake of consideration of everything say the doctor drew a picture for a child and made them pick plants for small amounts of coin. A child or anyone who didn't know the difference could mistake the two. Even the doctor might be unaware."

Dr. Jackal nodded at Sasha as he replied, "You are indeed correct Ms. Lagrave. If not for the city market being knowledgeable on that topic we would indeed have many deaths related to hemlock. However if Dr. Lemaire was to try to use a random carrot in the serum it would be lacking in the Acetic acid, Chlorsulfuron, Dichlorprop, Dicamba, Glyphosate, Hexazinone, Imazapyr, MCPA, and Picloram. Also the β-carotene, Ascorbic Acid and Tocopherol would negate the reaction with the Capsaicin. However the resemblance to hemlock is very dangerous."

Elizabeth mentally took note of the hemlock possibly being a mistake for Wild Carrots as well. As she had no way to write it down at the moment. "Well, we have concluded Dr. Lemaire is likely desperate by now. Perhaps he is just trying anything."

"I am no chemist so I can't say that my information will be helpful." Sasha admitted. "But knowing the dangers inherent in using hemlock in any amount possesses we should consider all options in regards to what was intended, so we are not thrown for a loop when batches do not match up. Though mistakes would be hard based on their root systems Wild Fennel is also somewhat visual similar flower wise. Though based on roots that seems less likely."

Dr. Jackal replied, "You are correct Ms. Lagrave. The mere idea of an accomplished scientist making that mistake sounds out of sorts. Each ingredient and tool we use in science has a purpose. Your gunpowder in your bullets has to be made from high quality potassium nitrate, known as saltpeter, softwood charcoal and sulfur. If the percentage is off or there are impurities in the mixture, the results will be unfavorable resulting on a misfire or the gun exploding in your hand. Just as you have trained yourself to shoot your guns, a scientist has trained themselves in the scientific methods and document our findings to continue to improve our results. After a lot of experience it would be odd for a scientist to make a big mistake identifying our materials much like you mistaking the correct ammunition for your firearms."

He had been quiet up until this time leading Lady Elizabeth to be a leader. Sung chuckled to himself thinking it is not bad being at the right hand of God. But he was not sure if Elizbeth would find that funny. "Doctor Jackal, if he was in an extreme rush could he have missed that fact of the wrong ingredients? I do not know the man well and only what I have read in reports. could he be under pressure from someone or thing?" ask Sung politely.

Dr. Jackal rubbed his chin for a moment as he ran many scenarios in his head. Then he replied, "A calm and composed scientist would rarely make that mistake after much experience since waste means a loss of funds, time and resources. For Dr. Lemaire to be this sloppy, it would mean he is desperate due to achieve his goal, avoid any pursuers and having to relocate a lot. Of course there is still the possibility that he did this on purpose for some methodical reason."
