Beach party: Sat morning

Joint post with LaserSexPanther

"Jocelyn looked up at Rose through a pair of brown gradient aviator sunglasses. The looked clearly borrowed. "I don't know that you really need much." she said. "I mean you can join me if you want. All we'd really need would be a solo cup or two to make the smaller parts. I don't think we'd be able to do one of those fancy ones I've seen on the internet that look like an like a model of the real thing in sand. Just enjoying something I didn't get to do as a kid." Jocelyn said. "I didn't live anywhere near a beach."

Jocelyn, turned back to working on the sandcastle she'd started. Not ignoring the girl talking to her. She was just a bit awkward after she rambled.

Rose nodded. "A solo cup? That's a good idea. I'll be right back." She laid out her beach blanket and then went over to the food area and asked some of the works for some red solo cups, they handed her a small stack and she came back with them. Sitting down next to the other girl she put the pile of red solo cups next to them. "I think they might have given me too many." She shrugged.

"I think those fancy ones have special kits for them but you're right this should work." Rose started digging in the sand with on of the cups. "Oh, where are you from?" She guessed middle of the country by Jocelyn's comment but that was a big place.

Jocelyn shrugged, "Not a lot of beaches in small-town Kansas." She said putting the sunglasses on top of her head. "My dads used to take me to the lake in the summer. But I never swam and the shore was mostly gravel and big rocks."

"That sounds interesting. I have spent time at the beach but that was in NY, mostly. The beaches here are a little different." She found a broken shell nearby and used the broken end to add spirals to one of the sand towers. "My last boarding school, though, was in Vermont and the only beach near that was also a lake."

"My last school was a public school." Jocelyn said, "but that's a sour subject." She added.

Jocelyn stared at the project for a minute. "Do you know anything about how guys think?" She asked.

"Well, I'm not one to pry." Rose had things about her life she didn't want to talk about, so she was conscious about not prying into other people's lives. Besides, prying was rude. Rose paused before answering the question. "Sometimes but I can't guarantee anything. Why?" It was just an honest response.

Jocelyn's cheeks turned a bit pink, "What do you do if you like two guys, they seem to like you, But they might like other people too?" She looked at the water a moment before putting the sunglasses back on.

Rose thought. "Hmmm....well...to be honest, I'd never had that problem. But what I would do is determine if I can handle them liking other people. If you can handle that then just spend time with each of them. Nothing is saying you can't just keep it casual for the moment and decide when you've had more time to be around them. " Rose's dating experience was limited which tended to surprise people but she wasn't, exactly, not a little knowledge about some things.

Jocelyn nodded, "It's too complicated for me." She looked down. "I guess I'll just find out either of them like me for me."

"That works, as well." Rose smiled. "Guys, dating, all of that can get complicated. It's nice when it's not. When things just...click." She was getting a little off-topic. "Have you gotten to see any of the areas beside the beach, school, and shopping?"

"A few places, but between my summer job and not liking crowds or public settings I don't go out much." She said, "I mean I'm super uncomfortable right now in this swimsuit. But I keep telling myself it's okay. I don't usually do good around people when I'm not working. That's like a different part of the brain."

Rose nodded. "I get that. If it helps the suit looks good on you. Though I don't think it'll help much." Rose stopped working on the sandcastle for a moment and leaned back slightly on her arms. "Don't tell anyone but I'm secretly an introvert. By the end of this weekend being around all these people I'm going to be completely drained. I know it's not the same thing, exactly." Rose had just been forced to learn to hide i

Jocelyn started to make another tower. "I keep telling myself it's silly and that I just met them a few days ago... but you know all those teen movies. Romantic stuff happens at the Beach Bash." She gave a small chuckle. "I don't know, crazier things have happened the last few days."

Rose smiled and thought of JD. "Tell me about it. I only met JD a few days ago, on the first day of school." It wasn't like it wasn't noticeable that she and JD were...well they were moving fast directly on a path to a relationship. "Sometimes things happen when you least expect them and aren't particularly looking." She paused. " So, what are the guys you like, like? You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to ." She wasn't prying just curious.

Jocelyn shrugged, "To be honest the two of them couldn't be more different." she said, "One of them makes socializing look like a duck to water, the other cliche and nerdy as it might be, is like a knight, and a bard rolled into one." she said, instantly thinking that last one might have devolved too much.

Rose looked out at the water. She already knew Conner and Jocelyn had spent time together but didn't know for sure if one of the guys was Conner though he was very social, he was also musically inclined. Rose would go with the social one being Conner for lack of more knowledge on the subject but she has no idea who the other person was. She knew several people who were bard-like. Were they all knight in shining armor, well, perhaps not all but some could be. She didn't think about it too hard or the fact that Jocelyn liked more than one boy as that wasn't unusual. "Sometimes that happens that the two guys you like are very different. Or that your opposites." She shrugged not sure what else to say on the matter. "I'm sure you'll figure it out." Or it's maybe that one of the guys would be dumb and back Jocelyn into a decision-making corner but she really hoped neither guy was like that for Jocelyn's sake.

Right about then Rose's cell buzzed. It was Sam, the desert food truck had arrived, and they needed Rose for some last-minute things. Due to the talent show and bonfire being tonight the dessert truck had been moved up to lunch. "Oh, I hate to leave in the building our masterpiece." Rose joked about the sandcastle, which really was looking pretty good for something built using a shovel, pail, solo cups, and some shells that had washed up. "But I need to take care of something." She stood up, rolled up her beach blanket, and put it in her bag. Then she put her sandals on. "It was nice talking to you and this was fun."Motioning towards the sandcastle. "If you ever want to talk again about stuff just let me know." The offer was genuine even if Rose might not have any useful advice; she could listen. "I'll see you later." With that Rose walked off to take care of other matters.

"Thank you." Jocelyn said, "and good luck with whatever it is you are doing." she added, turning back to the sandcastle.
