Three Little Words

Everything was now set up for the talent show; so, everyone was free for the afternoon. After meeting Rose at the trucks and seeing if she needed help with anything Sam had gone to the girls' guest house to get changed and cleaned up. She then went to meet Heath.

Heath had, similarly, gone to the boys' guest house to get changed and cleaned up. Sam had told him what she wanted as he had told her he would get her lunch. While Sam was finishing getting ready, he had gotten their food and put it into the bag that held what else they needed for their picnic. It was an insulated bag borrowed from Matt who seemed to have extras of those as they were used for tours of his family's winery.

The two met up and walked towards one of the paths that led from the beach to one of the more secluded areas. They walked for a little while before coming to an area that was slightly off the trail. Secluded, they couldn't really see the beach but that meant the people at the beach couldn't see them. Which was perfect. It did have a little area for them to put their blanket down. Heath put the bag down and did just that. Then put they grabbed their sandwiches, chips, and drinks out of the bag and proceeded to eat.

"This is nice," Sam said. "Just being alone with you."

"It is," Heath said. "It seems like we rarely get time alone." That wasn't on anyone in particular just the thing about being at a school all of the time. It was hard to get away sometimes.

"Well, maybe we can come up with a way to do this more often." Sam responded thinking that would be nice.

Heath nodded and the two continued to eat for a few more minutes not really talking about anything important. It wasn't until they were done with lunch that Heath switched the subject matter to something more important. "My Grandmother contacted me again."

"Have you actually spoken to her, yet?" Sam asked.

"No, I'm not sure what I'd say. I mean she's trying to do the right thing by telling me about the money but I almost wish I didn't know. It just means another thing my father kept from me." Heath said.

Sam sighed. "I won't tell you what to do with this. You know that but if she's reaching out would it hurt anything to just reach back, a little?"

"I suppose. Would you be disappointed if I just didn't?" Heath finished his soda. "I just feel like I might be reopening a can of worms that I managed to keep buried for this long."

"Of course not. It's your decision." Sam said. "You should know that by now."

"Yeah, I know." Heath put his empty can in the bag for the moment.

Sam moved her body closer to his and pulled him in kissing him. "You always know I'll always support you, right."

Heath gave a little smile. "Yeah, I know. I love you for that." Oh, he hadn't meant to say that. He meant it but he hadn't meant to say it so soon.

Sam backed off a little, looking surprised. She didn't speak for a moment, just sat there not saying anything. The moment was probably only a second but seemed to stretch for much longer.

Heath felt like he was holding his breath waiting for her response.

"I love you, too." Sam's words were quiet but real and lingering in the air.

Heath moved the inches between them and it was his turn to initiate the kiss, a long lingering kiss that left them both breathless. Sam moved her body so it was laying down on the blanket and Heath leaned over her and kissed her again.
