Lunch By The Ocean

Beach party: Sat lunchtime

Matt caught up with his sister on her way to lunch. “Conner, hein?” (Conner, huh?) He gave her a slight grin as he said it.

“Vous avez un problème avec cela?” (Well, you got a problem with that?) She joked, knowing he didn’t. “.Non, vraiment il va bien..il est Conner” (No, really he’s really...he’s Conner.) He was nice, good-looking, smart, and fun to be around but there was no need to go into all of that with her brother.

“Eh bien, c'est assez indéfinissable. Non, vous savez que je n'ai aucun problème avec vous deux pour voir où cela pourrait aller, le cas échéant.” (Well, that’s pretty nondescript. No, you know I have no problem with you two seeing where it might go if anywhere.) Matt commented.

“J'ai pensé ça mais pourquoi tu me dis ça?” (I figured that but why are you telling me this?) Kaylee asked.

“Oh, parce que j'ai dit la même chose à Conner et j'ai pensé que tu devrais l'entendre de ma part.” (Oh, because I told Conner the same thing and figured you should hear it from me.} Matt replied honestly. “ Il a accepté que vous vous teniez sur ses épaules pour changer une ampoule, après tout. J'ai dû demander.” (He did agree to you standing on his shoulders to change a light bulb, after all. I had to ask.)

Kaylee laughed and shook her head. “Eh bien, que vous en ayez parlé tous les deux ne me surprend pas. Tout va bien avec moi.” (Well, it doesn't surprise me that you both talked about it. It’s all good with me.) Figuring this conversation was over. Kaylee switched topics. “Vous a-t-il parlé de Courtney?” (Did he talk to you about Courtney?)

“Tu as remarqué?” (You noticed?} Matt wasn’t overly surprised but he hadn’t known that.

“J'étais avec Conner quand nous l'avons vue faire du vélo. Ensuite, il semblait que vous ne parliez plus. Je n'étais pas sûr de ce qui s'était passé.” (I was with Conner when we saw her riding your bike. Then you two, it seemed, suddenly weren't talking. I wasn't sure what had happened.) She explained.

“Je ne sais pas vraiment ce qui s'est passé.” (I don’t really know what happened.) Matt sighed. He went on to explain about asking Courtney to the dance and her reaction. “Conner a dit qu'il lui parlerait.” (Conner said he’d talk to her.)

Kaylee nodded and then switched to English. “Well, hopefully, you’ll get answers soon. But right now, I’m starving. And I see a few people that we might want to have lunch with. You know what, what if we get a group of us with blankets and beach umbrellas to all sit on the beach and have lunch together? “

“Let’s ask them,” Matt said as the two walked over to the friends they spotted talking

Kyle was getting ready to get some lunch when he spotted Rose, texting someone. He glanced around surprised to see no JD or Sam for that matter. “Hey,” He said. “Where is everyone?”

"Not sure about everyone,” Rose said. “I just texted JD to tell him where I was. Sam and Heath decided to do a private picnic. I think they wanted some alone time. But I don’t know about everyone else.”

Kyle was hoping he would see Justin again, maybe have lunch together, not necessarily alone just yet but as part of a bigger group, but had no idea where the other boy was.

“Hey,” Both Rose and Kyle heard Matt’s voice and then saw Matt and Kaylee headed towards them.

Kyle smiled. “Hey,” He then turned to Matt. “So, what’s it like having a little daredevil for a sister?”

“It makes life interesting.” Matt joked.

Rose looked confused. “What did I miss?”

“Oh, you weren’t there?” Kyle said a little surprised Rose hadn’t heard about it.

Kaylee spoke up. “It wasn’t a big deal. One of the lights on the stage burnt out and I fixed it. Well, ok, I fixed it by standing on Conner’s shoulders.”

Rose looked surprised. “What? Conner agreed to that?”

“Yes, he was actually pretty good at it.” Kaylee shrugged. “And we had helpers.”

“Who?” Rose now being curious.

“Well, JD spotted and Zander handed me the bulb.”

Rose breathed a laugh and shook her head. “I think JD only agreed because he didn’t want to take a chance with it being anyone else like someone who might not know what they were doing.” She could be wrong but that was her guess. “I’m really surprised Zander took part in it.”

“I’m not sure why he did but he was a help,” Kaylee said. She hadn’t really thought too much on why Zander didn’t leave.

“What happened with the chaperones?” Kyle asked.

Matt spoke up again. “Laps on Monday. After, my sister here, is out of cheerleading practice.”

Kaylee then said. “Anyway, we were thinking of getting people together to do a picnic on the beach. We could have a bunch of blankets together and beach umbrellas to just have a large group picnic while we’re eating.”

“That sounds good,” Kyle said. “We should spread the word.”

Rose pulled out her phone again, checking it then sent a text to Dawn. “I texted Dawn, who will be good at spreading the word. I’ll let JD know.” I think that’s about all I can do for the moment. But I think JD can also let others know. I guess we can tell others as we see them.

Kaylee looked around at the food trucks and noticed the dessert trucks. “How long are the dessert trucks going to be around for?”

“This evening,” Rose said. Having them there for several hours gave people the chance to break in between lunch and dessert or go back for seconds or have dessert after lunch and after dinner. It just gave more options. The dessert trucks one had cakes, cupcakes, cookies things like that. The other one had ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbert, and the like with build your own Sundaes and really almost anything else someone might want to do with ice cream.

“Why don’t some of us stay here and some will get blankets and stuff,” Matt said. “Hey, Kyle, you want to help me. I have a bunch of that stuff in the back of my truck.”

“Sure,” Kyle said. The two boys wandered off and Kaylee and Rose started talking about the beach, school, boys pretty typical girl stuff as they waited to see if they spotted anyone else.
