2018 ToS Winners

We asked for Tournament of Simulations (ToS) submissions back in February and March.  You responded by nominating 28 fantastic games, truly the best of the best from throughout the simming and online role playing community!  It’s now April and we have 10 winners.  If you’re curious how we choose the top games, here’s how.

As I say every year, evaluating sims is a subjective art, and this is certainly true with ToS.  We’re not here to identify the best games as this is impossible.  Instead, we’re here to identify what we think are outstanding role plays that exude excellence.  A different set of judges may very well chose a completely different set of winners.  And that’s okay!  With that our of the record, here are your 2018 tournament winners: Read More

It’s been far too long since we awarded an OngoingWorlds Community Honor (OWCH), but I think it’s important to recognise when someone has done something great in the community.

Tbh there’s so much awesomeness going on right now actually, the community around OngoingWorlds is blossoming, and it feels like there’s loads of events going on all the time that span not just this community, but the entire roleplaying community. Here’s the new recipients of the OWCH: Read More

FallFest Always Delivers

It always delivers.  Every single time.  For those who may have unfortunately missed the 2018 Simming Fall Festival, it was a day full of provocative discussions, live role plays, and interactive trivia games.  It was fantastic from start to finish in every measure: A real testament to the power of our broader community.  Simply put, FallFest was a blast! SciWorld! Wow!

What a SciWorld we had last month!  In case you missed it, Bravo Fleet and Star Army partnered together to host the 2018 edition, which was an absolute blast!  As far as we know, this was the first time that two different sim clubs co-hosted the convention.  The first SciWorld was in 1999, and it has been held continuously since 2011.  We believe that this year’s SciWorld was the 16th, but we’re not positive as many records from the early 2000s are no longer available. 2017 Tournament of Simulations (ToS) Winners!

The results are in and we have some winners!  If you’ll recall, we asked for nominations back in December.  If you’re not familiar with ToS, the original competition was held back in 1999.  For this year’s ToS, each participating sim submitted 10 posts that were written sometime during 2017.  The posts were then evaluated by three judges in three different categories (Story, Characters, and Readability/Grammar) on a 1-10 scale.  The final scores were then adjusted based on the individual judge’s respective averages and standard deviations to adjust for both hard & easy grading judges and judges with small & large ranges of scores.

With that our of the way, here are your 2017 tournament winners: Read More

What a FallFest!

What a FallFest, indeed!  A veteran simmer friend of mine even commented that it was the best FallFest or SciWorld ever held.  Believe me when I say that’s a high compliment coming from a distinguished individual!  For those who may have unfortunately missed FallFest, a week ago, we had a day full of provocative discussions, live role plays, and interactive trivia games.  Attendance and energy was phenomenal throughout.  It’s a real testament to the power of our broader community.  And as FallFest always is, it was a blast!

I’d like to personally thank everyone who had a part in making FallFest 2017 happen–everyone from chair Zachary O’Connell and his leadership team at Bravo Fleet to the event hosts to anyone who had a role behind the scenes, be it IT support, graphics design, advertising, simply inviting a friend, or something else I’m not thinking of.  You guys rocked it!  Finally, I’d also like to thank everyone who attended and participated.  Without you bringing your energy & ideas, there would be no FallFest.

See everyone at FallFest 2018 in about a year. Read More

2016 Tournament of Simulation Winners!

Hear ye!  Hear ye!  It’s time to announce the winners of the 2016 Tournament of Simulations (ToS).  For those who may not be aware, ToS is an annual competition, sponsored by Ongoing Worlds, where role play games of different clubs and genres compete against each other in a friendly manner for several awards.  The original tournament was held back in 1999.  For this year’s ToS, each participating sim submitted 10 posts that were written sometime during 2016.  The posts were then evaluated by three judges in three different categories on a 1-10 scale: Story, Characters, and Readability/Grammar.  The final scores were then adjusted based on the individual judge’s respective averages and standard deviations to adjust for both hard & easy grading judges and judges with small & large ranges of scores.

With that said, it’s time to finally announce our winners… Read More

Introducing the Two Newest Ongoing Worlds Community Honor Recipients

The OWCH awardWith the Tournament of Simulations completed, it’s time for us to honor the individuals behind another absolutely fantastic role play:  Rhiannon (aka Emily Wake) and ryjones are hereby awarded the Ongoing Worlds Community Honor (OWCH) for their outstanding service as moderators of the 2778 A.D. sim.  Indeed, founded less than a year ago in August 2015, the game has seen an astounding 2177 posts since!  It has not only exceeded all expectations in terms of quantity, but it has also set the pace for Ongoing Worlds sims in the flash or short form posting style.  This has allowed for many fascinating and unexpected turns in the story.  If you’re looking for an adventure, this game is where it’s at!  Congratulations to both Rhiannon and ryjones!  Well done! FallFest V officially belongs to history now!  For those who attended earlier this month on December 5th, you know what a fantastic event it was!  The entire team from host club UFOP: StarBase 118 put on another world-class show, just as they did two years ago at FallFest III.  I’d like to personally thank everyone who took some part in making it all happen:  those who hosted events, those who promoted & advertised, those who played a technical role whether it was graphic design or setting up chatrooms, and those who simply invited a friend to join in on the fun.  Thank you all!  And finally, I’d like to thank everyone who attended–without you bringing your energy and ideas, there would be no FallFest.  Thanks for everything!  For those of you who may have missed FallFest this year, we’ll see you next year for a day filled with lively discussions, trivia games, and role plays in IRC chat rooms.  With all that being said, it’s time to present a couple awards… Read More
