The War Starts Here

Some girl named Brook that Melissa didn't really know sat down and there was some talk about how funny the "joke" Lance made was. She heard Doug and some other girl pick on April and Zander and then the whole thing with Dawn which, given what she now knew about Doug, didn't surprise her but she was too scared to say anything.

Dante surprised her when he sat down at the table. She felt Doug's hand reach under her thigh under the table and squeeze it. It wasn't painful; like her wrist earlier but still, it was obviously a warning.

Then Dante's eyes met Doug's then to Mel's "That can't be all you're eating." he started. "That's a snack not breakfast. You should really get some more to eat. It's a long time till lunch." he said, side eyeing Doug was he spoke.

Doug heard Melissa start to speak up; she had purposely sat on her right side, which was the wrist he had hurt earlier. His hand still under the table while the other went about taking a sip of coffee. He put his cup down and tapped her wrist. Another warning. The entire time glaring at Dante.

Melissa took the tap for what it was and she said. "I'm not that hungry, really." But her words were softly spoken and while not everyone would pick up on it; some would take it for what it was. Fear of saying anything else.

Shifting his attention to Doug. "You should really wipe that look off your face, Douglas. People might start to think you are an abusive prick if you scowl at everyone that talks to Mel and force her to eat like a bird." again he smiled but nothing in his tone was happy.

Doug's glare became an almost snarl at Dante's words. "What the hell are you even doing here? Like you with your banged up crappy guitar should even be sitting with us." Doug really didn't know if Dante was a scholarship student or some guy who just wanted to pretend to be one but he was annoying the hell out of Doug.

Melissa swallowed not even knowing what to do. Doug stopped her from saying anything else when he squeezed her bad wrist. She winced not realizing it would hurt that much but quickly covered. He let go of her wrist and she wondered how long it would be before the bruises appeared and more if Doug was going to pissed at her for this whole scenario.

Something at the table in the middle of the cafeteria with the mixed group caught Doug's attention and he looked over....a snicker came from him.

Heath and Sam made their way to the table. Rose had been stopped by one of the girl who was in art class with her; that was needing her opinion on something. Rose told the other two to go ahead and make their announcement. After all, she knew what it was and there was no reason to wait.

Heath and Sam go to the table; holding hands. Kyle, Dawn, and a few other people smiled at them. Then Kyle asked. "Does this mean what I think it means?"

Heath nodded. "Yes. We're officially dating."

From their own table, there were a bunch of congratulations and people being happy for them and, of course, the friendly joking with things like "It's about time". From the rich kids' table, there was snickering.
