What Does My Eye Spy?

Day 5: Saturday morning, beach trip (after breakfast)

Joint post with Redsword7

During breakfast, there was an announcement that the musical theater kids would be doing the opening number for the talent show and they needed help with the setup, props, and costumes. They already had these things but they had taken old ones from the theater dept to use and those might need some touch-ups or things done to them. The more people they had helping the quicker it would be done.

Because of the number of volunteers they said they could start on it later in the morning and be done before lunch which would still give plenty of beach time during the day.

Kaylee wanted to help but also had sketched out some plans to skateboard, she figured she could go to the skate park now and then still be able to help. So, right when she was done with breakfast she grabbed her skateboard and headed off to the skating park. When she arrived she spotted a few of the skating kids, including Trevor, who seemed to know a lot about skating but she wasn't sure what else. So, she strapped on her helmet and pad and first just skated back and forth, with a few kick flips, just to get the feel for the ramps and surface. It was nice and smooth, She got going doing a number of tricks in a row, ollies, shuv-it's, flips, and Frontside 180's. All pretty standard but then she tried the trick that got her a good portion of the time, a backside 180. She had recently learned and mastered a hospital flip. The next step was learning to do an Alpha flip and after a few tips from the skaters, that was what she attempted and landed not on her skateboard, another one, and another fall. It was one of the tricks that were harder than it looks but skateboarders already knew that. She fell her third time and decided she needed some water and to try to figure out what she kept doing wrong. When she got to where her backpack was she noticed someone familiar there. "Hey," She said to the boy, a little surprised to see him there. "Do you skate or are you just watching?"

Conner was walking to his car when he saw the kids at the skateboard park by the beach. He uses to frequent the place all the time. Conner thought He was quite good at it that's what people said anyways. He spotted a girl doing some good tricks she looked familiar it was Kaylee. It looked like she was working on an Alfa flip with her own twist. It was not uncommon that skaters would add a few things to a trick to personalize it. He saw her walk over. She asked him if he skated and if he was just watching. Before he could answer a few guys there yelled over to Conner "Conner dude, you here to skate?" one of them asked. Conner smiled, "No man did not bring my board." said Conner. The other guy said, "Cool man see ya around." and went back to the half-pike tricks. Conner looked down at Kaylee "Ya, use to all the time. I have not had time lately and when JD got here we just spent time on the beach. Looking Hum.... anyways did not know you did." Conner said trying to use his flirty smile.

When the guy came over and asked if Conner was there to skate; it pretty much answered her question but Kaylee was glad he explained a little more, she nodded to his response. "Oui, surfing, skateboarding, I seem to have this thing for sports that could send me flying." She joked. Kaylee didn't know for sure if he was going to say that he had spent his time looking at girls but then he stopped himself and she didn't think about that too much. "Well, you wouldn't happen to know how to do an Alfa? I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong." She said returning his smile.

He thought for a moment, "It has been a few months but I can show you I think. let me see your board?" He asked.

Kaylee nodded and handed him her board, then waited for him to be ready.

He looked over the board. "Nice setup," he said. He put it on the ground and road it for a minute jumped with it a few times spinning it. He started the Alfa flip jumping in the air with the board it tangled with his big feet.

He went into an Aikido roll. He rotated his right leg so that his foot ends up behind him. Leaning his left shoulder down obliquely in front of him. Placing his left arm, slightly rounded, in front of him with his hand towards the ground, he rounded his right arm down to almost touching his left. It should form a circle. Turning his head down, under his right armpit, his head maintained this position through his roll. He came upon one knee laughing. "Wow, its works," He looked back at Kaylee. "JD showed me some martial arts stuff this summer the roll works," he said surprised. He jumped back up and onto the board and tried again. He jumped and did the Alfa flip with a little extra twist. "I did it," he said with a big smile.

Kaylee watched as Conner fell in an intriguing way. She smiled as he stood up and proclaimed it worked. "That was kind of great. If all skaters learned to fall like that; it might prevent some hospital room visits."
Skaters did learn how to fall; the way figure skaters, gymnasts, cheerleaders or even skiers did, specific to their sport to minimize the damage, but sometimes even with the training people got hurt and sometimes seriously. She then watched his feet as he performed an Alfa flip with a twist. "Tres bon," (very good) Kaylee exclaimed. "I think I might have it." The girl started to get up to get her skateboard but heard, in the distance, an engine. To be more precise a motorcycle engine but it wasn't fading; it sounded like it was going in circles. "Do you hear that? Is that..." Listening for another moment. "Matt's bike?" It wasn't that she was good at picking out motorcycles by listening; it was more it was a noise she was very used to and she hadn't seen anyone else with a bike. As the sound continued Kaylee got a confused look on her face. "Qu'est-ce qu'il fait ?" (What is he doing?)

"I can hear that bike," Conner said. He turned to look at what Kaylee was talking about. Looking over the few cars parked near the skateboard park. He could see someone on a motorcycle on the other side of the parking lot. It was not Matt riding it. "It looks like Matt's bike but matt is not riding it," he said looking "sure it is his?" Conner asked.

l
Kaylee turned her head and looked where Conner was looking. She nodded. "That's definitely his." Her older brother's motorcycle was custom-built and hard to mistake. "I need to check this out. You want to come?" Her interest peaked; Kaylee started to head towards the direction of the parking lot but stopped before getting there. She moved to an area where she wouldn't be spotted and watched as Matt let someone else drive his motorcycle, around the nearly empty parking lot, but she couldn't tell who it was.

Conner walked with her. He had never heard of anyone that Matt would let ride his motorcycle. Walking behind Kaylee was not a bad view either. As they crouched by a car Conner realized who was on the motorcycle it was Courtney. He looked over to Kaylee "You know who is on his Matt's motorcycle right? Courtney, He must like her to let her ride his motorcycle. What do you know?" Conner asked.

Kaylee shook her head "no". She didn't know Courtney well enough to know it was her. She raised a brow about Matt really liking Courtney. "I think that might be an understatement. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't even let me drive his motorcycle; even with a license." Matt would let his good friends and such borrow his truck but he didn't let anyone drive his bike; until now. "I know they'd been spending a lot of time together but I guess I didn't connect the dots." Though maybe she should have.

He grinned, "Do you think we should walk over and let them know the cat is out of the bag?" asked Conner. He really wanted to leave them alone and let them have fun. He knew Courtney needed this and deserved a nice guy in her life. "On second thought let's bail I guess they could use some alone time. Besides, you can use it for blackmail against your brother," said Conner joking then laughed quietly.

Kaylee breathed a laugh about the blackmail. "Yeah, you're probably right." Still, she was wondering how it ended up with Courtney being allowed to drive Matt's bike; but she'd probably find out, at some point. She glanced over towards her brother, once again, and noticed Courtney park the bike, get off of it, and take off the helmet she had been wearing. Kaylee knew that was Matt's extra helmet. The two sat on a nearby bench and started talking. "Yeah, let's go." Whatever the conversation was between her brother and Courtney; Kaylee had a feeling it was private. "Besides, you can give me a few pointers " She grinned and started walking back towards the skate park.

Conner smiled, "Sure." As he started to walk with her she did not seem so little girl to him anymore and was a lot of fun to be around. Matt was still in the back of his mind how would he feel about his little sister seeing Conner.
