After Dinner Thoughts

About 8:00 ish PM after dinner

After the meeting Dr. Jackal was all to happy to enjoy dinner. It was his first real meal in five long painstaking years. While on the run he was forced to live much like a poor peasant as he was living off of moldy bread, dirty water, rotten vegetables, dead rats and on a good day he could earn some watered down soup and hard black bread. To make it worse he had to endure the stomach pains that came afterwards. Oddly enough his other half would interfere when his life was threatened by any and all threats, for better and for worse. This made life on the run even harder since he was always on the move. So as he slowly savored his luxury food he was moved to tears. Yes he moved emotionally by a fancy meal to the point a few tears ran down his face. Lucky for him, he managed to keep his mouth full of food and avoided any real conversation till his meal was finished.

Once he was done he thanked everyone for the lovely meal and company as he excused himself. While trying to find his way back to his room he asked a maid to guide him so he would not get lost. Since he was new to the house and knew aware he was going to be watched he felt it better if they knew he was not trying to be sneaky while spying on him. Once he was in his room he removed his vest, shoes and coat before he put them up for the night. Then he sat on the bed and saw the leather bound dossier along with the book with the title 'The Brothers Karamazov' scrawled across its face. He opened up the leather bound book and read it thoroughly since he wanted to see if he missed anything on the carriage ride. Then he put it down and picked up the medical text to see if anything had changed. It was nice to read a book again since it have been five years since he held on in his hands.

As he read the text he found a few new novel things that had occurred during his absence. He got a few new ideas to use while trying to study his situation in hopes of fixing or undoing his darker side. Any hope of a normal life was already gone since he was in no position to have a normal job or family with his condition. If things did not work out with Lady Elizabeth's team he really didn't have anymore options. Even suicide was not longer an option. He needed to make himself useful so he could enjoy the minor pleasures in life like clean clothes, baths, good food, a nice bed in a nice house. He had taken this for granted in the past and felt blessed he could enjoy them again. Sadly he knew no one was ever going to trust him since he was a time bomb waiting to explode. On the bright side he felt it was nice to talk to Mr. Lagrave and Lady Elizabeth on a cordial level. If luck would hold out for him, he might get to talk to the others like that in the future. He smirked as he knew that was just a pipe dream for now. After a while his eyes tired from reading and he book marked the book and put it aside on the lamp table. He then laid down and closed his eyes.

Unfortunately his dreams were less than peaceful as he still suffered nightmares of his past. He could see the demon killing people and eating them as he scared away the rest of them in his rage. He left a lot of death and destruction behind and many were to afraid to challenge him during his random transformation. It was rare he even had to fight anyone since panic was high and the demon didn't hang around for a mob to gather up. As he suffered his nightmare the doctor began to sweat as he tossed and turned. It was going to be another rough night for him as he was stuck in his nightmare.
