Outside Their Field of Expertise

All was silent. “It's not working, it should be working.” said South, looking it over. Ransom reached over and turned on the power. South frowned. “Right, so,” he sounded slightly annoyed, “now here we go.” and reached for the button.

There was a fizzling pop and the device emitted the smell of burning electronics.

"Jamie, what size capacitor did you hand me" South said, flushing a deep shade of crimson with embarrassment. Ransom sniggered.

"15 micro farads maybe. I'm an engineer not an electrician, I don't keep track of the junk in my pockets." Jamie shrugged, kicking over the last remains of the spider guns. "You just said you needed one, not what size, didn't you check?" Jamie shrugged.

"Damnit..." South said, beginning to take the device apart again, several bits fell off the device as he did. Ransom sniggered again.

Cass was sat massaging her temples as South and Ransom argued over the design schematics and components required for a shrink ray. Jade could feel the vitriol building behind the mask of still annoyance. She stood up and opened her mouth to join in the discussion but Jade interjected.

“It’s a dimensional specialist arguing with a botanist over something way outside their field of expertise. It’s a good idea, but it’s not worth getting involved with.” Jade said calmly. Cass sat back down again her expression more exasperated than angry.

“No, no, no. You needed zero point six piping, not zero point eight tubing.” South snapped at Ransom.

“That’s all well and good, but we need to account for the tachyon emitting gyroscope feedback.” Ransom growled.

“Alright, that’s enough bullshit.” Cass said, groping in her bag and pulling out the Horney Devil™. “Pulse rifle.” Nothing happened. Cass sighed in frustration and launched the toy at the pair, who yelped in surprise as it began to vibrate across the deck plating. Jade made a tactful departure from the looming row and approached Phil.

“You have any more of those.” She gestured with one arm, the other missing arm joined it to form a tube, but in reality, it looked like she was making a karate chopping gesture. Phil looked puzzled. “You know, the tubes…” She said, with a frustrated sigh.

“Oh, sure.” He smiled and handed her one of the Archiver weapons. She sat down near the completed pile of food. A forlorn Brett checking his inventory lists and mumbling something about it being impossible to get rid of the Oregano, as it was far to orangey for crows. She shook her head and closed her eyes, focusing on the intent that she wanted, blocking out the rowing scientists and the mumbling chef.

“Shrink ray.” She proclaimed. ‘Snickt’, the device flowed and shifted in her grip, a small bubble gun appearing in its place. She shrugged, aimed and fired. The crates of food shrunk down to the size of a box of matches each.

"So I guess we can fit more in now yah?" Jaxx said, picking up a crate of vegetables and looking it over suspiciously.

"Guess so." Jay said, with a grin."
