The Resident Gossip

(Day 5 - Saturday Morning - Beach trip. Pre-Breakfast)

(Joint post with Red sword7)

Rose had been up early to help arrange how the breakfast from the catering trucks was to be set up. Being she was paying for the catering, she had to be there but figuring that she could handle it herself so she didn't bother waking up Sam. Once everything was set up she went for a casual walk on the beach. What she didn't know was somebody had been watching her just waiting for the moment when she was alone.

Nancy Ferrah, journalist in the making and resident gossip, had hoped that the rumors around the school, at least half which had, possibly, started from her, would bring Rose Newhall to talk to her to set the record straight but nothing had happened in that direction. It was only the first week of school but rumors spread like wildfire and then were dropped as quickly. Nancy knew when she needed to jump on something.

Rose hadn't investigated or really even wondered who started the rumors; it didn't really matter to her who. What was being said about her was lies and her friends seemed to know that or not care about the rumors.

Nancy spotted Rose walking on the beach. She looked around and didn't see Sam or … who was that again that Rose had been seen with a lot. Oh, yeah J.D., athlete, scholarship student, something about him being talented musically. For perhaps one of the richest students in school, Rose certainly seemed to not care about status. Nancy wasn't sure if the wealth status was accurate but she had heard things. There was definitely a story here, Nancy could just feel it. "Rose," Nancy ran up to the girl.

Rose heard her name, not knowing at first, who it was but upon turning around she saw Nancy running up to meet her. "Hi. Nancy."

Nancy stopped in her tracks. "You know who I am?"

"I think everyone knows who you are." Rose said. "What can I do for you?"

"Well, I know there have been a lot of rumors going around about you and what happened last year. Why you were gone for so long?" Nancy said. "I'm giving you a chance to set the record straight."

"Thanks but I'm not interested." Rose said.

"But don't you want the rumors to stop?"

"You writing an article about me won't stop the rumors. Even if I tell you the truth there will be people that will think that I'm lying. So, then I can just add 'liar' to what they will say about me," Rose stated.

"Just a quote or two." Nancy wasn't giving up.

Rose sighed trying to think of a way to get rid of Nancy.

Earlier that morning JD had finished his morning work out as the sun was rising most of the other's were not even up yet he jumped in the shower and then got dressed in trunks and Nike T-shirt he walked over to Conner's bunk and kicked it a few times shaking it.

Conner opened his eyes, "Really man, you need a life. I would say you need a girlfriend but I think you have one of those." he said mumbling.

JD smiled, "Conner, let's get some food, it's going to be a long day on the beach." said JD.

Conner got up grumbling, "Ya, ya," he said, putting on his shoes.

They started to walk towards the food trucks when JD saw two people talking on the beach near the shore. He stopped and sighed, "Nancy and Rose," he said out loud.

Conner stopped and looked also, "Great that's all we need,'' commented Conner. "Go save your girl JD before Nancy has to face Sam, not a good outcome." he said laughing some.

JD shook his head "Knight in shining armor on the way," JD replied walking away from Conner.

JD walked up to Rose and Nancy, "Roses are always beautiful in the morning sun." He said with a smile looking at Rose. He walked beside Rose but his arm around her waist. "Sorry, Nancy, Rose had a date with me and breakfast," he said. politely gently turning with Rose to walk towards the food trucks. "I am sure you can check with Sam for a time for an interview in the next year or so," he said with a mischievous grin.
