Like Flying (Part Six)

Sunday Afternoon Beach Party

The date with JD, Rose, Conner and Kaylee continued.

JP with Redsword and Cindy

They lead everyone to another room and are fitted with a jumpsuit over their clothing helmet goggles when everything is adjusted. Everyone was lead to a wind tunnel, this thing was big. A giant vertical wind tunnel stretching two stories up the center of the room. Inside it, the flight instructors were taking turns showing off tricks. They'd spread their arms and legs and float up to the top of the tunnel, and then plunge back down in a controlled nose-dive. They'd do backflips, front flips, and high-speed spins—at one point, even appearing to breakdance. This seemingly effortless display squashed Conners remaining nerves and inflated his confidence. Showing them it was safe. First was JD, he walked in with one instructor. The winds started, he took a step and jumped. Suspended by the airflow. He looked a bit shaky at first. JD loved the sensation of something between flying and floating. The feeling was very much like freefall but not quite the same. This gives JD that pure adrenaline rush for the entire length of his experience. The sensation felt like skydiving out of a plane at 120 MPH. He started to move around the starts, some stunts, he did a few flips and dives twists, and turns. He was ok, not like the instructors, but did some cool things. When it was over JD walkout. "Yes! That rocked!" He yelled. He walked up to Rose. "Just remember to relax and don't fight it," he said to her.

Rose nodded to JD's words. She went next going in with one of the instructors. She took a breath and went with it. This was a girl, after all, that did her own kind of flying with the uneven bars and on her horse but this was different. It took her a moment but she jumped into the stream. She didn't do anything that fancy this time but it did feel kind of amazing. She said to JD; "OK, you might make a convert of me. That was pretty amazing."

Kaylee went next. She wasn't nervous at all and went right into the stream. She tried a move or two once she got the feel of it. Kaylee got down to the group. "That was great." She said.
