The Simming Endeavor: Episode 2 (Abdication)

Hello, and welcome back to The Simming Endeavor, an online role playing elimination game of skill, luck, and cunnning, with a top prize of $100 USD. I’m Charles Star and I’m your host. As a reminder, this experiment is both sim and game show at the same time. The contestants role play together in the play-by-post sim we created on the Ongoing Worlds platform while weekly blog posts here simultaneously serve as game show episodes. Last week, we met the contestants, discussed the rules, and assigned roles. Before we meet this week’s special guest, I understand that Tabitha has an announcement for everyone. Tabitha?

Hello everyone. As CO, it turns out that I’m allowed to hand over any responsibilities that came with the role… including the role itself. So, after considerable deliberation, I have decided to step down as Captain and exchange roles with another player. I think this player will make an excellent Captain for the Endeavour and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the role. So, without further ado, please welcome our new Captain – Mavis! 🙂

What? An abdication in the first week!? It’s like an episode of the Crown only with Klingons and Tranya!
.

As a CO myself, I understand the pressures that come with the position. I applaud you for your honesty and courage in realizing that you may not be up to the task. Looking forward to great reading from all my fellow contestants.

Kailash, when it rises.
.
.

Thank you, Tabitha.  Mavis, before we move on, would you like to address your crew?
.

Yes! Hello all! First of all, I can understand why Tabitha wanted to swap positions. The stress and pressure of being a CO is very real, and as an experienced CO I believe I can steer us in the right direction! I’ll be getting a mission going shortly, something to get you all working together and involved! I would love to see you all come up with some awesome and creative posts, standby and no matter what please remember to have fun along the way!

Well that was unexpected…
.
.

I respect Tabitha’s decision. And I wish you luck on your new role.
.
.

Hello new Cap-i-tan! I guess we can’t do the usual hazing of the new captain…(put away the streamers, guys!)
.

Thank, you Mavis. The game has officially taken a direction I did not anticipate. I would like to talk this through to ensure everyone fully understands what just happened. As Commanding Officer, Tabitha is free to delegate any and all of her responsibilities, including Captain itself, to others. However, she cannot turn over her #1 precedence that we established in the last episode. To illustrate, I’m going to play out two scenarios for you. Say Tabitha were to be eliminated: Whoever has the next highest precedence number would then take over as Commanding Officer. That person could choose to become Captain themselves, let Mavis keep it, or, as Tabitha did, give it to someone else entirely. Now, say Mavis were to be eliminated. The Captaincy would then revert back to Tabitha. She could again choose to delegate her Captain responsibilities to someone else or she could decide to be Captain herself. The game just got a lot more interesting.

Hehe… I always have to make things more complicated.
.
.

Only changes I see are who is getting us killed and how soon? Still GAME ON! Although the #2 spot hasn’t been very active as yet.
.

I am so confused. Can I not be the engineer? Or can somebody tell me.
.
.

Our first guest needs no introduction, but I’ll give one anyway.  He’s the—
.
.

—Good morning, simmers!  I’m David Ball, founder and owner of OngoingWorlds, where you can create and run your own online role plays with others.

Cancel that introduction.
.
.

Rolling out the big guns on week one eh? I hope you have Wil Wheaton tucked up your sleeve for Episode 3 to top this!!
.

Hi hi! Nice to see top brass supporting us all!.
.
.

Its nice to meet you David. I’m super excited to start playing on OW for the first time.
.
.

That is fantastic! It’s a real pleasure to meet you, David. Thanks so much for taking time to participate in this venture.
.

Thank you for hosting this game David.
.
.

I’m speaking in my best British accent, not because I’m trying to make you think that I’m smarter than I am, but because I’m actually British.
.

Bloody fantastic!  How’s my accent, David?
.
.

Charles, why don’t we stick to the script?
.
.

*hangs head low and shakes head….
.
.

We have a Script for this? *Puts on very English Accent* Lose? I’m not supposed to lose. Let me have a look at the Script.
.

Shaka, when the walls fell.
.
.

Bloody awful, Charles!  Simmers, your challenge this week is to introduce your new characters into the game.  However, there’s a twist: The introduction must include some sort of mix-up or mistake in-story.  It can be a case of mistaken identity, mistaken responsibility, or even a mix up about tea time.  Or something else entirely.  For those of you who may be worried that you’re out of your element in a Star Trek role play, I have some more news for you: I’m not a Star Trek simmer either.

Thank you, David.  And for those of you who are Star Trek role players, I was never a very good one.  As a reminder, David and all of our special guests will be grading your posts based on quality, originality, and readability.   Your challenge post must be submitted by 12:00 noon EST on Wednesday. Are there any questions?

Are we allowed to help each other if a contestant gets confused on what he or she should say in the posts?
.

You are certainly free to talk, coordinate, and collaborate on pretty much everything. However, your challenge post must be written by you and only you. You can ask other players for advice and direction for your challenge posts, but all of the words need to be written by you.

How are you defining quality, originality, and readability?
.
.

Great question! Quality is the level or nature of your writing. Originality refers to the creativity of your plots and ideas–not using tired devices or tropes. Readability generally encompasses the post’s flow and how entertaining it is.

So we don’t get graded off for ignorance of things Star Trek?
.
.

That is correct, you do not. Switching gears, is there anything anyone would like to say to your fellow contestants before the game officially begins?
.

Before we begin, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you.
.

Really very excited that we have our first challenge! I’ve been waiting to write Lt. Colon for some time now. Should be loads of fun!
.

Booyah! this is so in my wheelhouse. LOVE IT!
.
.

Officer, He was about 6 foot tall, dark and brooding, with a scar running down the left cheek. Ohh wait, you want MY statement! I have discovered a plethora of imaginative and interesting writers. They all seem not only competent but fairly easy to work with. I am enjoying reading and writing with them all so far. . . .

Everyone! It’s gonna be fun to play with you all! I hope we can have the greatest time ever!!!
.

Simmers, your first challenge begins now.  Good luck!
.
.

Thanks, we’ll need it I’m really nervous over the challenges.
.
.

This is so exciting! I’ve already got half an idea of the mistake my character might make for the challenge. I can’t wait to see everyone’s introductions!
.

Good luck everyone! I will try not to blow us up.
.
.

Kira at Bashi!
.
.

Is there a bang? I’m sure I’ve attended races, and there’s ALWAYS a bang 😉
.
.

Engage!

.

For everyone’s information, Alexander and Chase McFly did not submit challenge posts this week. A very interesting strategy!
.

David, welcome back.  I trust you enjoyed the challenge posts?
.
.

I did, they were fantastic.  Ranking them was tough, but I do have a top three for you.
.

Excellent, and what three were those?
.
.

The posts written by Mavis, Largehobbit, and October.
.
.

Dude! No way…
.
.

Top 3! Yay! Now I can do my happy dance. But now its a fight to the death Muahaha! Parry, Parry, Thrust, Thrust, Sword!
.

Congratulations! They were all so well written and wonderful to read!
.
.

All of these were extremely well written, I hope to continue this.
.
.

Congratulations guys! I loved Largehobbit’s post, couldn’t stop laughing when I read it.
.
.

Mavis, Largehobbit, and October, please step forward. First, congratulations to each of you for finishing in the top three for the first challenge. A job well done! But who was #1? October, why do you think you might have won?

I think my challenge post may win this week because it’s… Well… Different.  The character is unique and the subject matter is amusing and plausible. Writing is my niche, but we’ll see.

It was the luscious description of the Oreo that hooked me into this one 🙂
.
.

Fair enough. Largehobbit, I’ll pose the same question to you. Why do you think you might have won?
.

I think I might win this challenge because Bolak is both bald and ginger, both of which are symbols of good luck and great fortune.
.

I like that this one had some interesting character interaction, and expanded on a race that was introduced as a one-off in old Star Trek.
.

An interesting perspective, Largehobbit. David, what did you think about Mavis’s post?
.

I loved the comedy in this one! It’s silly, but I can really imagine the awkwardness of the whole situation!
.

Mavis, the same question: Why do you think you might have won this week’s challenge?
.

I think I might win this challenge because who doesn’t love a good giggle!
.
.

That’s good… because you won this week’s challenge! Congratulations, Mavis, you’ve won immunity for this week!
.

Congrats Mavis!
.
.

WAY to go CAPTAIN! Great post!
.
.

Wowie, Mavis!! Don’t spend it all in one place 😉
.
.

October finished #2, and Largehobbit finished #3. Will anyone else get immunity this week? Let’s find out. October, I’m going to roll a standard six-sided die. A 4, 5, or 6 will result in immunity. A 1, 2, or 3 will result in no award. Let’s roll…

I’m freaking stoked as it is, but hey! Luck, please be a kind dame tonight!

The tension can be cut with a knife!

.
.

HUZZAH!!!!!
.
.

Lucky number 6 – congrats October.
.
.

Largehobbit, I will also roll a standard six-sided die for you. A 6 or a 5 will result in your own immunity. A 3 or 4 will allow you to grant immunity to a fellow player. A 1 or 2 will result in no reward. Let’s roll…

Fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed.
.
.

You do like to make us wait in suspense Charles! *bites fingernails.

Zuzutoo I choose you. 🙂
.

*Covers face with hands. Oh my. I am shocked. Thank you!
.
.

YAY Zu! You’re immune. Were the shots painful or hypo-sprayed in?
.
.

Pokemon reference I like Largehobbit even more now, Lol.
.
.

David, thank you again for all of your help not only with this episode, but with getting this whole project off the ground.
.

It was my pleasure, and anytime, Charles. Good luck to everyone!
.
.

As David exists stage right, it’s time to get down to business. We’re going to vote one player out of the game. Mavis, October, and Zuzutoo each have immunity. Contestants, cast your ballot for elimination now.

This is going to be a hard choice. I love writing with you all. Good luck to everyone!
.
.

The elimination round! It’s so hard to choose!
.
.

drum roll!

My vote is for Chase McFly.

Chase McFly. Poor guy. Kinda miss him.

My elimination vote is for Alexander. I feel that as the XO of the ship, he hasn’t participated and we all know that Riker would not have that!

I vote for Alexander due to lack of participation.

I vote for Alexander. The reasoning is the lack of participation.

That’s six votes for Chase McFly and five votes for Alexander. Chase McFly, your fellow contestants have spoken. You are eliminated from The Simming Endeavor.

Glad I heard of this game, but I’ve decided it’s not really my thing. I wish all of you good luck, thanks for offering me a chance to be in this, and maybe when I have more free time, I’ll try again.

Bye Chase I’m sorry to see you go I had hoped you would perhaps win but bye and perhaps next time!
.

Wish we could have corresponded, but life happens.
.
.

Chasing a dream? Naww we never knew you! Hoped to see you as CSO and some great writing, but alas, parting is such sweet sorrow.
.

Goodbye McFly, its a shame you didn’t try….
.
.

Goodbye Chase. I’m sorry that we didn’t get a chance to play together.
.
.

I loved your name! We’ll miss you!
.
.

Unfortunately, contestants, we’re not done yet.  We started the week with 13 players, a very unlucky number.  We also just had a Friday, the 13th. And finally, no one was eliminated last week. As a consequence, we’re not sending one home tonight.  We’re sending two home tonight.  Please cast your ballots for elimination once more.

Well I guess it is just how the game works, let’s all do our best guys.

Eleven votes. Alexander, I’m sorry, but your time on The Simming Endeavor has also come to a close.
.

Thank you, everyone. Maybe another time.
.
.

I didn’t get the chance to know you but I’m sad to see you leaving so soon bye!! and good luck on your next adventure!
.

A shame that we never got to know you. Be well.
.
.

I guess this makes you Alexander the NOT So Great eh? We had hoped for some leadership shown, but you didn’t even show up to play.
.

I’m sorry that I didn’t get a chance to play with your character Alexander, he sounded interesting. I hope you stay with us for reading and voting. 🙂
.

Au revoir! Hope to see you again!
.
.

So long Alexander…
.
.

Normally an eliminated contestant would immediately leave the game and choose one of the remaining players to write their character out of the story. However, since both Chase McFly and Alexander did not create characters, that won’t be necessary tonight. Furthermore, they will not get to cast ballots for the winner in the final episode. As an additional consequence, they will retain their eligibility to enter a future season of The Simming Endeavor, should we ever be crazy enough to try this again. Before Chase and Alexander depart, separating our opening cast forever, I’d like to take care of one more thing. Bella of Omega Fleet has been working on a portrait of all of you. I think it’s time to unveil it. Bella, please.

Thank you, Charles.
