FallFest 2020: Saturday, November 14th

Big announcement time: After nine years of sponsoring the Simming Fall Festival (aka FallFest) and three years of sponsoring the SciWorld Online Convention, we’ve decided to turn management of both events over to TNU Project, where Josh Hina will continue in my role as General Coordinator. Josh and TNU will maintain the club-host model that we’ve used, but they’ll be handling all of the behind the scenes stuff that Ongoing Worlds has typically done.

Ongoing Worlds will sponsor FallFest 2020 while TNU Project will then assume sponsoring responsibilities for SciWorld 2021 and all future SciWorlds & FallFests. Sponsoring these two premier community events, which are steeped in role play history has been one of our greatest thrills here are at Ongoing Worlds. However, it’s simply time to move on, and we have no doubt that Josh and everyone at TNU Project will continue to make them better and better. To aid in the transition, Pegasus Fleet and Independence Fleet will be jointly hosting FallFest 2020 and SciWorld 2021.

FallFest X

Yes, join us for FallFest X on Saturday, November 14th. It will be a full day of engaging discussions, interactive trivia games, and live chat role plays–in a Discord server open to all simmers and online role players, regardless of rank or club affiliation. Basically, this is where we all come together as one to share ideas, information, and energy!

AlexM of Pegasus Fleet & Ken Gillis of Independence Fleet will serve as co-chairs. They’ll be on point to build the schedule, advertise, and generally ensure that FallFest runs smoothly. It’s a big job, and they need your help!

What can I do?

  1. Plan to attend: this is one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet & connect with other role players!
  2. Invite your friends: let them join in on the fun too!
  3. Contact star [dot] idf [at] gmail [dot] com if you would like to host a one-hour discussion, trivia game, or role play.

SciWorld 2020 Style. Thank you.

What a fantastic celebration SciWorld 2020 was! It was outstanding from start to finish with excellent discussions and really, really fun trivia games. We’re all obviously in a situation wholly unfamiliar to us: the novel coronavirus pandemic and everything that it affects. However, SciWorld helped us break through that barrier and connect with each other just like we always have.

Why You Should Attend SciWorld Tomorrow

That’s right: SciWorld 2020 is tomorrow, Saturday, April 18th.  Join us then at 1730 UTC / 1:30 PM EDT (New York) / 10:30 AM PDT (San Francisco) for the Opening Ceremony. Josh of TNU Project and the rest of the event hosts have a fantastic line-up ready for us.

It doesn’t matter if you’re into Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, or something else entirely.  Or if you prefer chat sims, play by e-mail, or message boards.  If you’re a simmer or online role player of any persuasion, there will be something there for you!  But what do you really get out of SciWorld?  Here are 4 reasons you should attend:

  1. You’ll get to rub elbows with many prominent members of our community.  In fact, some of the most successful and influential role players and simming leaders in history will be attending and facilitating events.  Learn from the best!
  2. You’ll hear about the latest and most innovative techniques and strategies for leading a successful role play.  Indeed, there will be multiple events dedicated to running better games.  Discover what’s working for others now!
  3. You’ll be able to role play with others from different clubs and genres.  With a diverse set of hosts and settings, you’ll experience a wide range of concepts and ideas.  Challenge the simming norms and help break barriers!
  4. You’ll have fun!  All simmers and online role players, regardless of rank or club affiliation, are invited to attend and participate.  There’s no way to energize your sim than to come back with a fresh perspective.

As always, if you would like to host a one-hour discussion, trivia, or sim and there’s still space in the schedule, please contact Josh immediately at jhina [at] tnuproject [dot] org with “SciWorld” in the subject line.

See you tomorrow at SciWorld!

What a 20th Anniversary SciWorld, Trivia, and More!

What a SciWorld! Unfortunately, I was only able to attend my own event, I’ve but I’ve reviewed the transcripts and it looks like it was a excellent convention! I saw a lot of great ideas exchanged and some really interesting discussions. Most importantly, I saw the best of the simming and role playing community: YOU! In short, the 20th anniversary of SciWorld was everything I hoped it would be and more. We’re off to a superb start for the next 20 years.

SciWorld 20 Years 1999-2019: Saturday May 18th

When I announced SciWorld 2019 last month, I failed to notice that this would indeed be the 20th anniversary of the SciWorld Online Convention (Discord Invite: https://discord.gg/EGBwV54). Wow! What a milestone! How could I have missed it?!?

Well, I did. To make up for it, I’m posting an edited version of a previously unpublished interview I conducted with Ender Maki back in 2011. For those who may be wondering, simmer Ender Maki is credited as being the founder of SciWorld. The interview wasn’t conducted for the purpose of publishing, but rather to collect information so I could flesh out a few articles on the old Simming Encyclopedia (which lives on today as Roleplay Wiki). As such, the interview may seem a little disjointed. But it’s still great! Without any further ado, here is Ender Maki, in mostly his own words, from 2011…

SciWorld 2019: May 18th

SciWorld 2019 graphic by Outpost 42 News‘ Lt. Dan

That’s right, the 2019 edition of the SciWorld Online Convention will take place May 18th from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST in a Discord chat server. As always, SciWorld is open to all simmers and online role players, regardless of rank or club affiliation, and the ticket price remains $/£/€ 0. This year we’re blessed with three hosts who are working hard as you read to put together a great program for us all:

What can you do?

First, plan to attend! This is when the entire simming and online role playing community comes together to discuss new ideas, compete in fun trivia games, and finally, to sim! Second, invite your friends. There really is nothing quite like SciWorld. It’s an experience that words simply can’t do justice. Finally, consider hosting a one-hour discussion, trivia, or sim. What better way to share your experiences with the greater community? Email me at star [dot] idf [at] gmail [dot] com with your event title and your top three time slot choices.  Please put “SciWorld” in the subject line.

More information, including URLs and a schedule of events, will be posted later to this blog. Until then…

See you at SciWorld ’19!
