So you want to kill a character…

Roleplay character jumping off a cliffA while ago I began asking roleplayers about killing off their characters, why and how they did it, and what the consequences were. The death of a character can have widespread consequences for the rest of your game, both the story and the other characters, as Sarah from RPGRating explains… Read More

The story of New Worlds Project: #5 – Designing the ultimate website for your ultimate game…

New worlds website timeline

By Kim Smouter, Co-Founder of New Worlds Project. See part 1 of the story of New Worlds Project here.

The website is the engine room of any decent play-by-post role-playing community, and as a result, it deserves as much attention as you give to the setting and game design process. In this chapter, I intend to cover in greater detail how the past, current, and future websites of New Worlds Project were designed and brought to life, in the hopes of inspiring greater deployment of efforts within our community. Tib’s Corner – Interview with David “Onion” Ball

Just the Tib's Corner Logo, mediocre, I know

Hey everyone! Tib here with Tib’s Corner’s first interview! Our first interview is with no one other than the Ongoing Worlds creator, Dave Ball, AKA Onion. Dave Ball is not only the site’s creator, but the creator of Blue Dwarf itself. I had the chance to talk to Dave with a short interview, and here’s what I found out about the creator!

Q: When did you decide to make a fan-fic based off of the BBC comedy “Red Dwarf”?

A: It was when I was at college, I spoke with a friend who first had the idea of creating an ongoing “game” where you send email between members to continue the story with each email. Read More

Ed gets his Flashback week prize

edbrownYou’ll remember a couple of weeks ago Ed Brown won the Flashback Week competition? I sent him his prize, a snazzy OngoingWorlds mug which he’s received and has taken this photo of him with his prize.

Ed is known in the Starbase 118 community as Diego Herrera, the very same who’d volunteered to chair last week’s Fallfest chat. It was a few days into the planning of Fallfest when I realised I was chatting to the same person! (I felt a bit dumb).  Read More

What a great FallFest & two OWCH for the price of one

What an outstanding FallFest!  Indeed, Diego and the entire support team from UFOP: StarBase 118 put on an absolutely fantastic show.  I actually counted 50 people in chat room #1 at one point during the first hour.  Wow!  Maybe next year we’ll need to expand to three events at once.  Who knows?

Anyway, I’d like to again thank everyone who had some hand in putting FallFest together.  We had contributors from seven different clubs (United Federation of Peaceful Simmers, Ongoing WorldsUFOP: StarBase 118Phoenix RoleplayingUCIPNew Worlds Project, and Independence Fleet).  So without any further ado, here they all are: Read More

M.I.A.Y.R.W.M.O – Why you’d be mad to miss Fall Fest 2013

Fallfest banner

This article was written by Ed Brown, aka Diego Herrera from Starbase 118, the chair of this year’s Fallfest.

It’s easy for the host of an event to turn around and brandish clichéd slogans about their events. “Miss it, miss out” is a great example of that – a stopgap phrase that works wonders for fluffing out a generic advert that doesn’t seem too exciting. That’s why in this case we need extra letters – miss it and you really will miss out – and I’m even prepared to go the extra mile and tell you why! This year’s fall fest is crammed to the gunnels with SIMming discussions that will help you bone up on your RPG know how no matter which group you belong to, science fiction trivia and live SIMs and our very own Fall Fest DJ, all hosted by UFOP: Starbase 118. Sound like a blast yet? Read on. Read More

Check out the facebook page for the latest news and information.  Be sure to let all your friends know about FallFest too.  And don’t forget to mention #OWFallFest in your tweets!

Other than that, we’ll see you at 1:45 PM Eastern Standard Time / 6:45 PM British Summer Time! Read More

The story of New Worlds Project: #4 – Keeping the excitement going

arnou

By Kim Smouter, Co-Founder of New Worlds Project. See part 1 of the story of New Worlds Project here.

It might be worthwhile having a refresh. Chapter 1 introduced this series as a story of the up and down and hopefully up again that New Worlds Project has experienced in its 10 year history. This chapter covers what we did to keep it going and can perhaps serve as a checklist for others… Read More
