Tib’s Corner – Chat Ettiquette #LikeaTib

TIBBsWhy hello there Ongoing Worlds. Tibby here. If you haven’t noticed, OW has gotten a new Chat Room. Sadly, our buddy Cbox is no longer with us. We have a new fangled chat box thingy! The new one is called Chat Wing which Dave has been so nice to add. Now Chat Wing is great, many new features that Cbox never had. Since the chat is a little different I thought I might do a little bit on chat ettiquette! Now I’m not saying we’re all horrible, it’s just that we need a refresher once in a while! So let’s learn some manners! Read More

Reggie’s character in Cathedral: The Thieves Guild is Sara Chase Blackwood

Hello everyone! It’s Reggie again with ten more tips for you all. I decided to separate them into chunks thematically. These listed below will help you focus on building a dynamic and likable character. The set of tips for next time will be about plot development. NOTE: I am using “she” to refer to your character, but obviously its to be taken as a placeholder for both genders. Just got tired of writing He/She constantly. Read More

Daring swordfights, fantastical adventures and questing, oh my! For the creative, innovative and artistically inclined, these things tend to magically drag us into turning our world upside down– making the impossible possible. And what better way to test our imagination than with a friendly (or not-so-friendly) enticing roleplaying game?

Tournament of Simulation Winners Announced

Joust-tournament-of-roleplaying-simsThe Tournament of Simulations is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s tournament.

Over the past six weeks, a dozen judges busily reviewed the nearly 50 games that chose to enter this year’s tournament.  Each game reviewed was compelling in its own right, full of dedicated players and entertaining stories.  Nothing should be taken away from those that took part but did not place; for in the end this year’s competition was extremely tight, with mere points separating first and second place, and many places beyond that.  In the end, the14 winning games, representing 8 groups, and spanning 10 genres, are representative of the diversity and creativity present throughout our entire gaming community. OK, now in advance I’d like to apologize to writing an article about semantics. I am fully aware that many of you are shaking your heads and pleading to various deities for an answer to ‘why.’ Well, because. Because reasons. Read More

Steven Savage from Seventh Sanctum

Steven Savage from Seventh Sanctum

After my post on Seventh Sanctum and Randomization, Dave noted that I did a lot of posts on geeky careers at MuseHack – but I hadn’t actually written much on the career value of role playing games.

Of course I hadn’t, and at first, I thought “why would I?” Because the benefits are obvious, right?

This is one of those cases where the answer is “of course not Steve, what the hell are you thinking?” Sorry, it took me awhile to realize that.

So, thanks to Dave, I’m doing an in-depth examination of how your RPG interests can help your career. Read More

Mary Sue Deconstructed

multiple facepalmsWe’ve talked about Mary Sues a lot in the RP community. That’s because we always have to deal with them as they infiltrate our ranks as Jedi or Starfleet officers, or any other field you want to name. For the most part we’ve gotten used to spotting Sues, but that’s because the Sues have a tendency to draw attention to their status as such.

What if I told you, there were far more Sues out there? And some characters who are clearly the offspring of Mary Sue.

In order to tell who a Hidden Sue is, very careful attention is needed, and there’s a fundamental premise we have to accept, even if we hate it. Read More
